On DU, but that's because I'm scared of getting disappointed again, and there's really not much I can do from my office chair anyway.

What do you mean, though, that the Dems are missing? You mean Dem callers? I heard that line was disconnected last week. Could they have done it again?

18. It means aside from Conyers and Wexler and Jesse Jr.
and whoever else is on the dais for this panel, there don't seem to be anyone but Cobb (Green) and some of the attorneys and CITIZEN ACTIVISTS involved in testifying to this panel.

I concur. It's a disgrace, an absolute disgrace, that Third Party candidates are stepping up to the plate to protect democracy and (if possible) the position of the DEMOCRATIC candidate (and probable winner).

It occurred to me earlier, in the unlikely event this election were overturned and Kerry were inaugurated, he would be such an incredibly weak President as a result of this that ... well, it boggles the mind how weak he would be.

36. I don't understand it either, Eloriel.
Unless there's something going on at the top that we don't understand. Two very opposing thoughts come to mind:

(1) Either something is about to burst with the Feeney thing, (because Kerry IS making an appearance in Ohio) and so Kerry's waiting for the right moment; or

(2) Nothing meaty is on the plate and he doesn't want to give the otherside the appearance that he's going to give Bush trouble, when he has no evidence to question the results of the recount. And let's face it, if Kerry did make an appearance, we'd all be interpreting to mean that there is fraud and he's ready to challenge Bush.

53. Take our fighters where we can get them. Sam Adams & Tom
Paine weren't politicians; they just started the Revolution. It is disappointing that more prominent Democrats are playing it safe, but let's not dwell on that. Instead let's back these fighters to the hilt. I don't mean to lecture you, Eloriel. I know you have contributed far more than I have--just making a comment.

We're a flock without a leader. Kerry alone has the power to bring this issue to the nightly news and the newspapers with a phone call.

Investigations would advance greatly with one word from him. Money would pour in and the real fight would begin.

14. I can't fault him for that though.
I makes excellent points about third parties being shunted aside by the media and the debate process. He's got an audience, he'd be a fool not to use it. I'm not so sure that a simple two party system isn't part of the problem. I wonder if an election would be harder to fix if you had three our four candidates seriously duking it out.

not carrying their fair share of this burden of ensuring democracy isn't stolen right under our eyes?

Passing strange indeed that he and Badnerik, theird party candidates, are carrying the water for the Party that almost can't bother to have anything to do with this, don't you think?

I don't fault him for hawking his own party, not one little bit.

I'm just saying, if someone wanted to make the case that the Greens are better than the dems, this Green guy's contribution to this hearing today, compared to that of the dems, doesn't really support that case. The dems are looking great, and the Green guy isn't really regsitering.

we would like for him to talk about the voting problems which is what the hearing is about. Not about how third parties should have a seat at the table. He took his shot on national tv, and he looked like a quack. Thankfully, Cliff Arnebeck was there to pick up the dropped ball.

13. Who do you think is hosting this? Do you mean the Kerry campaign?
The democrats are all over this (Conyers, Jackson-Lee, Nadler...) It's the Kerry campaign that is missing and quite frankly I don't blame them. If they are at the forefront we see another PR fiasco like 2000. I think they are smart to sit back and let it happen as a grassroots movement. If the results get overturned they come out smelling very very clean indeed.

He's a Corporatican (Democrat + Republican + Corporate influence = Corporatican). I'm fairly disgusted with him. And frankly, it's far more likely that the mess that the Bush regime has created will blow up in their collective faces if they are still in the WH. If Kerry actually wins, the Bushies will likely slink away unharmed and Kerry, et al will be stuck with the mess and the egg on the face for the impossible mess left behind.

an attack on DC that left them all shall we say less than standing. IE the Dems are useless and the Repubs are evil.

But I loved everyone that was at that hearing. And it's mostly the Black folks fighting. Jesse Jackson Sr. made me choke up big time.

So simple, his words. "It's just not right."

After all the struggles of the civil rights movement of the sixties and here we are 2004-and the darkest days yet in the guise of everything is as it should be.

70. Actually, there were many more people there than it showed...
according to William Pitt. Apparently the room that Conyers managed to secure (since the repugs refused to allow him to use a larger room) was so small that the overflow was accommodated elsewhere.

To quote him, "...the crowd was so large that an overflow room needed to be opened on another floor. Along both walls were arrayed more than a dozen television cameras."

So at least we now know that there were lots of people there. Which is a relief!!
