1. That was from the testimony today
A man showed up to vote with his IV because OH wouldn't give him an absentee ballot while he was in the hospital!

8. Unrealistic transfer of blame
And if people wouldn't have gotten there before her, maybe she could have gotten home in time. Blood on the hands of all the voters!

And if traffic on the way home wouldn't have been there, maybe she could have gotten home in time. Blood on the hands of all the drivers!

And if the supreme court wouldn't have given the 2000 election to Bush, maybe there wouldn't have been long lines, and maybe she would have gotten home in time. Blood on the hands of the supreme court!

And if the polling station would have been closer to her house, maybe she could have gotten home in time. Blood on the hands of those who decided where to put polling stations!

And if ... this goes on endlessly...

Or maybe it was the Heart Attack that killed him?

12. Nope, they've got blood on their hands in many, many ways.
That's why we call it RED HANDS MOVEMENT. (And because they are getting caught red-handed, the bastards).

13. Different topic all together.
But its clear this is not one of the ways they have blood on their hands... the guy just died of a heart attack - blame his diet and eating habits.

24. There were two.

Susan Truitt talked about the guy who never got his absentee ballot so his family took him out of the hostpital, IV and all, to wait in line and vote.

Bob Fitrakus talked about the lady with the chemotherapy IV who the poll workers failed to pull out of line and make accomodations for, when he asked on their behalf.

2. Yippee!
She's talking about the Conyers forum........so much for her being advised not to talk about voting....personally, I think you'd be taking your life in your own hands trying to tell Randi NOT to talk about something!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

4. Thank God for her uninhibited talk.
I fear that the pressure to silence her will be persistent. Watch - she'll be relieved from duty within the year! It is disgusting. I think that Thom Hartman gets away with saying more because he is not so much in the general public eye. I don't know. I'm hoping that freedom of expression will continue.

10. Randi & Mike are AAR
They've both been doing radio for a long time and can make it entertaining and informative. I love everybody else on AAR, but they will take some time to develope the skills to match the two professionals.

6. Interesting point
I can remember the first time I voted in the early 60's, and people that couldn't physically handle waiting just moved to the front. Now with Bush in charge, I noticed that all of them had to wait in the hours-long line. Many of them just left without voting.

I guess that's one way to ensure that retired people aren't allowed to vote.

9. no, that's a generalization...
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 04:48 PM by SaveAmerica
as is saying the military 'always votes republican'. I had an overwhelming response from retirees when I called from our dem list before the election. They were fired up to get Kerry in office. (edit; and that's in NC)

11. True - depends on region
But the generalization in sense of the US as a whole is true.

And even still within regions, the elderly are more likely to vote Republican than are any other age group. So it wouldn't make sense for the republicans to purposely single out elderly people from voting. In fact if anything, they would want to encourage the elderly vote and supress the young vote - a way to do encourage that slightly: put older people in line first, precisely the idea that several people in this topic have advocated.

14. Funny, I thought it was the other way....
In talkin to old people I know, they could not get enough about telling me how facist this new regime is...almost like they liken him to the Mussolinis and Hitlers that they fought against...

Could be wrong but I think that this man even scares the shit out of old people...especially when he passes bills that are in favor of drug companies rather than the old people themselves...and ruins the democracy that no doubt many of the survivng old people had many many family members and friends die for.

Ah well those damn generalizations always gettin us into trouble...

15. Probably
There are tons of elderly people who hate Bush, i'm sure. But statistics and voter turnout show clearly that for most given regions younger age groups hate bush (like Kerry) more. Which means that Republicans should be interested in getting out the elderly vote.

16. Did you happen to see
the AARP voter guide?

Kerry's position on the issues was identical to AARP....Bush declined to "check the box" and his text was against every one of AARPs positions....AARP made no endorsement. They just let the guide speak for itself....

My BIL asked how any AARP member in their right mind could have voted for dubya..........

carried their voter's guide before the election.

My scanner is trashed or I would scan it and post it.

btw: AARP = American Association of Retired Persons.

on edit: here's a link to one of the issues...once there you can navigate around

I am affraid you need to show some documentation to convince me of that. Retired people vote democratic because the democrats support their issues.

22. We're Both Wrong?
In aggregate (by extension in most states) elderly people are more likely to vote republican than younger age groups.

I have however checked some exit polls and by state, it depends. Frequently 30-44 or 45-59 crowd is more Kerry favoured than Bush favoured.

So, we're both wrong to a degree?

National Exit Polls Combined
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/elections/2004/graphics/exitPolls_national.html
Age / %Kerry / %Bush
18-29 / 54 / 45
30-44 / 46 / 53
45-59 / 48 / 51
60+ / 46 / 54

Now some sampling of states

California Exit Polls (blue state)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/elections/2004/graphics/exitPolls_california.html
Age / %Kerry / %Bush
18-29 / 58 / 39
30-44 / 53 / 46
45-59 / 52 / 45
60+ / 51 / 47

Massachusetts Exit Polls (kerry home state)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/elections/2004/graphics/exitPolls_massachusetts.html
Age / %Kerry / %Bush
18-29 / 72 / 26
30-44 / 59 / 40
45-59 / 58 / 41
60+ / 61/ 37

Florida Exit Polls (swing state)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/elections/2004/graphics/exitPolls_florida.html
Age / %Kerry / %Bush
18-29 / 58 / 51
30-44 / 46 / 53
45-59 / 42 / 57
60+ / 47 / 52

23. There was another story about a woman who was doing chemotherapy
who stood in line with her cane for hours. One of the election protection people (not sure the organization) took her in & tried to get them to let her vote right away - apparently this is in HAVA or rights of disabled - but was refused. Eventually, she left, without voting.

Another comment from today: the press interviewed the students standing in line to vote, but only interviewed the ones treating it as a party. Most were pissed as hell.
