Mr. Staton, 22, remained in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio yesterday, charged with 10 counts of false registration and one count of contempt of court, a center spokesman said. A bond hearing and arraignment has been set for 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Defiance County Common Pleas Court.

He allegedly filled out the forms for Georgianne Pitts, 41, who was working for the NAACP's National Voter Fund.

Pitts was found dead in her home Monday, possibly from a drug overdose, the Toledo police crime log indicated.

"I had talked to her a couple of weeks ago," Mr. Stiles said. "We would have charged her with 10 counts of false voter registration forms."

Pitts was the lynchpin of the operation, he said.

"She was the central figure in all this," Mr. Stiles said. "Everything went through her. She hired him, paid him in crack, and she was hired by the NAACP."

Her death means the end of that portion of the case.

False registration is a fifth-degree felony, and carries a sentence of six to 12 months.

1. His fraud was against the person who paid the commission also,
right?

Why haven't the Republicans who tossed the Democratic registrations been prosecuted?

7. This has nothing to do with election fraud. About money and crack.

The arrests this week of the longtime Democratic Party chairman in Madison County and two others on voter fraud charges marks the end of an era, according to Prosecutor Rodney Cummings (R).

"What we've had here is some old-time politics," Cummings said after Madison County Democratic Party Chairman Thomas J. Ashley, Ashley's son-in-law and a family friend were charged with multiple counts of fraud. "Some people think it's 1965, and it's just not going to fly anymore."

Cummings said the charges signal a change in Anderson, a Democratic stronghold of 60,000 people. National Democrats dating to President John F. Kennedy have courted the city.

...seems like they're arresting Dems left and right across the country, but they won't let their own dirty tricks see the light of day ....

:hippie:

6. Ummmm... does no one else find it odd that the "central figure"
is now dead? Pretty convenient. Was she "overdosed" or "suicided"? :tinfoilhat:
