3. Almost noone reads Voting Issues.
Most people come to DU for their sensationalist fix, getting a status check on how we are doing, and then to run their mouth a bit. If we're lucky, they provide some insight on some issues raised in the threads.

At least that's my general impression. A lot probably goes on by pm that I don't see, so hopefully I am being pessimistic.

Those that provide the sensationalist fix are exempt from this criticism because at least they are bothering to "google for the cause."

Also, most of the actual activism going on is entirely centered around media outreach, which is good, no doubt about it, and those folks are exempt too. But without substance, media outreach can only go so far.

But as far as coordinating and making DU an effective communications center to tie together the ground troops, well just look at the signup threads in Viting Issues and you can see we fall way short.

And the ground troops need us. There are many disparate groups running around with no idea the other groups exist or what they are doing. I've talked directly to some of the activists that are close enough to the issue that they don't have time to keep up to date online, and have been trying to put the right people in contact with each other.

5. Not all of us are bright enough
to understand and find interest in stacks of numbers. My I.Q. test score is 153 and I'll be damned if I can keep up with the statistics.

Bush is in.
Bush needs to be gotten out.

That's about the level I can deal with.

6. It's not all numbers. In fact it's mostly about people.

Most of it is people skills. See the tasks for HOUNDERS. The
only reason it looks like a whole lot of numbers, is because us numbers people are good at making TODO lists.

All you need to know how to do is use email and web to get stuff done.
