4. "dissidents?"
"The dissidents claim there were disparities in vote totals for Democrats, too few voting machines in Democrat-leaning precincts, organized campaigns directing voters to the wrong polling place and confusion over the counting of provisional ballots by voters whose names did not appear in the books at polling places."

Isn't that a bit premature? We haven't even set anything on fire yet!

8. Dude, we ARE dissidents
according to Webster, being a dissident means :

disagreeing especially with an established religious or political system, organization, or belief

:)

10. We are CITIZENS!
Period. We ARE the established religious or political system, organization, or belief.

And we ARE Americans. Marginalize us at your peril.

11. I would say we are citizens first, and dissidents second
Edited on Sun Dec-12-04 05:55 PM by meganmonkey
I don't see how recognizing that literally speaking, we are dissidents is marginalizing. Please explain what you mean.

By 'we', I mean the people who were out in their capitols today, and those who believe that fraud caused the majority to 'lose' the election. 'We' aren't the established system of politics in this country - if we were, we wouldn't need to be fighting this fight, would we?

I never said anything about not being American and not being citizens, and nothing in the definition I posted implied anything of the sort.

btw, my original post was meant pretty lightheartedly, didn't mean to offend.
edited for spelling

14. Dissident is a marginalizing term.
Edited on Sun Dec-12-04 06:03 PM by Ready4Change
(BTW, I'm not offended here either. But I am alarmed at the lack of coverage of the very real problems in Ohio.)

The term "dissident" implies unreasonable fringe elements. It's use is an attempt to label people who may or may not have rational reasons for their actions, to place barriers between them and "real" citizens who otherwise might object what may or may not be done to quell such disruptive elements.

As said above, first they will be called dissidents. Then, if they prove effective, they will be called enemy combatants and rounded up. And normal, patriotic "citizens" will view this as good for the nation.

Read history. We're soaking in it.

16. Only because the media has spun it that way, I guess
And since I have no TV that word has not been bastardized in my view, I honestly don't think any of those things when I hear the word. I think of a dissident as someone who stands up for their rights when they are being suppressed. Considering we ARE the ones fighting for basic democratic principles, we are the Patriotic Dissidents, and all the people sitting on their asses in denial are the dangerous ones.

It's kind of like the word 'liberal' - I am tired of words that should be respected in a democracy being trashed. I, for one, won't pretend to be something I'm not, or pretend NOT to be something I am.

19. A case to support my point:
A quote from an article being talked about in the following thread:

"bar American companies from publishing works by dissident writers in countries under sanction unless they first obtain U.S. government approval."

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1428304

The issue here is that "dissident" is read as "enemy" by our press and most of our citizens, and that is how it is used by this administration.

7. ABC.. but where is CBS, or NBC?
great post!

Now to slam the networks.. i wonder why semi liberal CBS doesnt have it.. yet.. maybe just slow to act? Would be nice if NBC also got it on air.

BBC also needs to pick it up.

Are we just looking too early to find these other players getting it?

9. Am I missing something, or does this totally ignore the fact that
there were protests in 49 other cities too?

My eyes and brain are still frozen from standing outside in Lansing, but I didn't see anything in this article about that. Please tell my I am blind!

21. Lets have a talk about the AP
We need to do something about the way things get covered. These stories in the MSM are all AP. We need a big effort to get them to cover this as investigative journalists...

23. Sorry,

but is this media fashistoid?

I've read this:

"by demonstrations outside the Capitol sponsored by groups who don't ACCEPT that President Bush (news - web sites) won the key swing state by 119,000 votes, guaranteeing his VICTORY over Democrat John Kerry"

We should send this to the UNO...

Welcome in Ukraine?

26. this is not enough guys
just having the AP spread a vague story that calls us dissidents and confirms the Blackwell position that we are just saying false things doesn't help our campaign....most Republicans or people leaning Right are just gonna look at us as sour grape losers...

what we need is IRREFUTABLE proof of fraud...so we can start convincing the Dem. base, and start seeding doubt within the Republican fold (some will always against us...but some Republicans probably will be in confusion if evidence is shown their party stole the election).

If we can produce that outcome, a United Democrat base against a confused, angry, and doubtful Republican base...we can make this happen...

it's NOT gonna happen with these AP stories...so far, what I read on the mainstream media does not cover even a little inch of the allegations posted on Brad Blog, Cannonfire.blogspot.com, crooksandliars.com, DU, or any other forums...

And, frankly, I'm quite disappointed with the Hearings...some good suspiciouns were thrown out there...but nothing hard...and ARNEBECK PROMISED evidence to blow us away and nothing came of that...

So, chill people...we are not gonna win with these crappy mainstream stories
