To all the marchers: A big thank you! |
|
I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who braved the cold, and much more, to go out today. I am so sorry I could not go because of my disability.
I see here that some are disappointed in the numbers. But I know every one of you made a difference. As I like to say, 'See my sig'...It starts with one.
In my view, there are probably many reasons people didn't go. Among them:
-The event wasn't covered by many in the media, including some on Air America; -Much of our own democratic leadership isn't even talking about voting issues; -I've often heard people say that their previous protests (in DC, and at the RNC) didn't matter; -Further, I see a climate of fear increasing in this country, though I think people may not want to talk about it.
The first three reasons may (and I do mean 'may'; I know I can't speak for others) have made people think, 'What's the point?'
But of course, there is a point, and every bit matters. Every word, every deed. It is noticed; it is appreciated; and it makes a difference.
Again, thank you.

Those of us with the ability to take our message to the streets must do it. Whether it is 10 or 10,000. Movements start with just a few people that are brave and willing enough to stand up, and remain standing until their voices are heard.
This nation was founded on the belief that the government must answer to the people. Now is the time for us to demand that they hear us and answer us.
