Kerry lawyer asks for visual inspection of some Ohio ballots

-snip-
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Democrat John Kerry is asking county elections
officials to allow his witnesses to visually inspect the 92,000
ballots cast in Ohio in which no vote for president was recorded, a
Kerry lawyer said Sunday night.

The request is one of 11 items that Kerry is asking for as part of
the recount that Ohio's 88 county boards of election will begin this
week, according to a letter sent to the boards over the weekend.

"We're trying to increase the transparency of the election process,"
said Donald McTigue, the lawyer handling the recount for the Kerry
campaign.

-snip-
McTigue said the visual inspection is allowed under state law. The
goal is to look for potential votes that were not registered by the
tabulating equipment.

Other requests include the use of independent experts to check the
programming and calibration of the election equipment, something
McTigue said has never been allowed.

McTigue also asked that counties accept the help of a group called
Votewatch to determine which precincts will be chosen for that part
of the vote that will be counted by hand. McTigue said using the
group will ensure that the ballots are selected using a valid random
sampling method.

39. I admit, I was very hard on Kerry
I was very disillusioned by the silence. I watched since 2000 how fraud was swept under the rug with hardly an ounce of effort to fight back, I thought we were headed down the same path. Once everything settles I will be the first in line to say I was wrong. Can't wait to see how things play out tomorrow!:kick:

59. Those lines are to keep the wolves at bay, you've got to keep adding
'doubtful it will change the outcome of the election,' or ' of course, we don't think this will have any effect on the outcome of the election,' ' there is virtually no chance that this will alter the results of this election,' ad nauseum to keep them from being in your face while you try to CHANGE THE RESULTS OF THIS F**CKING ELECTION. But that is new saying 'could have an effect on the outcome of the election.'

Who knows, I've got to go to sleep.

Ciao Keep all your toes and fingers crossed.

16. Don't forget about Blackwell
He isn't finished with us yet.

A quote from the end of the story:

-snip-
McTigue would not speculate how many of the items the counties will
honor.

"Several requests are trying to push the edge of envelope," he said.

Carlo LoParo, spokesman for Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell,
said state law will guide counties on how to do the recount.

"I don't know if Mr. McTigue is in a position to dictate the terms
of a recount," he said.

18. Also in the Akron Beacon Journal
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Democrat John Kerry is asking county elections officials to allow his witnesses to visually inspect the 92,000 ballots cast in Ohio in which no vote for president was recorded, a Kerry lawyer said Sunday night.

The request is one of 11 items that Kerry is asking for as part of the recount that Ohio's 88 county boards of election will begin this week, according to a letter sent to the boards over the weekend.

"We're trying to increase the transparency of the election process," said Donald McTigue, the lawyer handling the recount for the Kerry campaign.

Two minor presidential candidates who received 0.30 percent of the votes in last month's election requested the recount, claiming that the election was full of irregularities that need to be addressed.

20. The core message
Kerry's campaign supports the recount but says it won't change the election outcome. Bush's campaign has criticized the recount effort, saying it won't change anything.

This is cover for the Kerry people to find fraud without looking like sour grapes. We ALL know that they think the outcome will change, but they can't give the fundies talking points to blast Kerry.

I still have to ask why wait so long till the night before the electors get choosen? I believe that fraud happended and that we will manage to do something about it, but can someone explain to me what part of Kerry's strategy is enhanced by waiting this long? It seems that he bascially did capitualte and only in the last few days has come to believe that there was massive vote fraud which can be proven. While believe me I am delighted that he seems to be coming out to do battle hopeful...

Now on the street tonight the lights grow dim
The walls of my room are closing in
There's a war outside still raging
You say it ain't ours anymore to win

Peaceful skies in my lover's bed
With a wide open country in my eyes
And these romantic dreams in my head

Once we made a promise we swore we'd always remember
No retreat, baby, no surrender
Blood brothers in a stormy night
With a vow to defend
No retreat, baby, no surrender

64. letting the GOP get to pick who gets a hand recount is like...
...letting the supsect decide whether or not he wants to be in a particular line up. Give me a break. Random should be the bare minimum with the Dems able to request that certain precincts be hand recounted based on evidence of fraud (including statistically abberations in vote totals).

Someone needs to hand recount Katherine Blackwell's brain to see if he has 1) a conscience and 2) an ounce of sense. He is going to go to jail, and I doubt that he will receive a presidential pardon.
