Reporting on long lines on Nov 2 MSM vs. Local
Thought this was pretty funny. Especially CNN. I've got a search engine through my univ. that searches TV/radio transcripts. What would be good searches to do to try to find reporters saying stuff throughout the night of Nov. 2 before they wouldn't shut up about "bloggers spread wrong exit polls" and "moral values won for Bush" "decisive victory"?

CNN-The presidential election is underway with little evidence of long lines or controversy at the polls

KARE-TV
For college students in Ohio waited 10 hours just to vote because there was only 2 voting booths.

NBC
It appears so far, so good. Long lines, but few problems in Florida today.

NPR
Yesterday it was long lines at the polls. And a tip of the hat for perseverance to the students at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, who waited in line for up to 12 hours to cast their votes. They had just two electronic voting machines at the Gambier Community Center.
BLOCK: Lauren Gray is a sophomore at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. She waited on line nearly 10 hours to cast her vote.

WTZN
And there were long lines at the polling places across the country. And we were wondering all day yesterday what that meant. We even heard a little bit earlier on this show from one woman in Ohio who waited in line for almost 10 hours to vote with her fellow students at Kenyon College there.

WSYX-TV
Voting Machines; A look at how to avoid long lines for voting in the future.
Interview - Emma Habrel, voter, says she waited for nearly 10 hours.
Interview - Voters who were interviewed expressed outrage at the long lines, while politicians expressed glee at record voter turnout.
Dan Trevas, Ohio Democratic Party, says it is a travesty that we can have record voter turnout and not enough machines to get them in and out in a timely manner.
Press Conference - Matt Damschroder, Franklin Co. Board of Elections, says that Franklin County used all its resources on election day, and that the number of voting machines was chosen based on voter registrations. Kent Justice reporting.

WTAE-TV
Interview - Rich Fitzgerald, County Council President, says people are happy to see long lines.

WCTV
Many Ohio residents had to wait as long as four hours at the polls yesterday to cast their votes. Some are calling for the Board of Elections to reform the process.
Visual - Protesters.
Interview - Voters, say that they did not get a chance to vote because they waited in line for hours.
Interview - Sherie Whitlow, Election Worker, said that she had to stop people from getting in line late. Duarte Geraldino reporting

WSYX-TV
There were long lines for absentee voting in Ohio.

KOA AM
No surprises yet. Legal challenges in Ohio.
Long lines for voting in Colorado. Air quality advisory.
CNN 4:30am on nov. 3

1. FLASHBACK: 'Hardball with Chris Matthews' for Nov. 2
Read the transcript to the 10 p.m. ET show

Excerpt:

LISA MYERS, NBC CHIEF CONGRESSIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Chris.

Well, the Bush campaign continues to crunch the numbers, comparing the exit poll data with the actual votes as they are coming in. And what they have concluded, according to senior campaign official, is that there is a 3 percent to 4 percent undercount of Republican votes across the board in the exit poll data.

Now, specifically, their analysis is based on the votes in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. But they have concluded there is a much broader problem, that 3 to 4 percent of their vote is not getting counted in the exit poll data.

They are also feeling increasingly good about Florida. They believe they are doing better than expected in the swing areas. They are doing better than expected in the Democratic areas, and they are seeing very large turnout numbers in the Panhandle, which is traditionally Republican territory. Now, no one is doing high-fives here, but there‘s a lot more smiles than there were two to three hours ago.

There‘s still no predictions here about Ohio, but they are feeling much better about Florida and also about the race nationally, because of what they see as a significant flaw in the exit polls—Chris.

4. doesn't sound possible 3 to 4 percent exit poll not counted...
How could they figure that out that out? Unless they already had sworn statements of each person who was going to vote for GW, how could they say that 3-4% is not being counted as they exit?

This quote is for 10:00, just after the weird broadcast from 'the family'.
