4. Operation Oprah -- how to focus the nation on 6 Jan 2005
Given that I'm a scientist and know zilch about 'the law' and know nothing about Mr Bonifaz, Arnebeck et al. strategy in this matter, my gut tells me that it was not an accident that they filed when they did and that their focus is laser-like directed at 6 Jan 2005.

We must get all our fellow citizens focused on 6 Jan 2005 -- the dropdead day for saving our franchise of democracy.

I've been thinking for days about one thing that might best serve to get the nation focused on the fact that we are living the final moments of the American franchise of democracy. To get folk to realize that if we don't halt the process, now, it will be lethal to our Constitution and all that it protects.

And, crazy as it may seem, I suddenly thought of "Oprah."

What if we could get everyone on DU and elsewhere contacting Oprah in the next 24 h and beg, plead with her to invite Mr. Bonifaz, Arnebeck and Curtis, and, perhaps Congressman Conyers, onto her show and have them explain to the Nation what has happened.

Have them explain (and show video clips, etc) that many of our fellow citizens were systematically prevented from voting and none of us have a reasonable basis for concluding that our vote was counted as we intended (and, in fact, ~ 30 % of the votes have no mechanism for verification that they were even recorded correctly by the device the voter used).

I do not watch tv, but I do know that if any show on mainstream tv/cable is likely to have the broad impact potential that we need, NOW, for our message, it's Oprah's show.

We all know we need this message broadcast, bigtime. We need a platform and Oprah's got one of the biggest. If folk think this is worthy then maybe everyone can contact the DU management tean and ask that a "Call To Oprah" action alert be posted on the mainpage.

Peace.

6. Forget Oprah. bush kissed her, and Arnold makes her giggle
Back in the 2000 campaign, Little Boots almost made Oprah swoon. Then in the CA governor recall fiasco, she had Arnold on her show (just because she's friends with Maria, yeah, sure, right).

I don't think Oprah gives a rat's patooie about the social, economic or political conditions of people of color anymore. Hey, she rose above it, so can they, as far as she's concerned. Never mind they brung her to the dance. Now she can buy the band and they can walk on home by themselves.

Oprah is no longer a real person. She's just a marketing brand, JMHO.

9. Thank you. I'm even considering calling Rep Conyers...
...and asking his office to contact Oprah, directly.

Maybe someone will even see this suggestion, here, and have access to the Congressman and can make the ask.

Peace.

10. Email to Rep Conyers, Mr Arnebeck and Mr Bonifaz
Dear Congressman Conyers, Mr Arnebeck and Mr Bonifaz,

First, I am deeply grateful for all you are doing to try to save the American franchise of democracy. You, even better than I, understand that our democracy is under attack; all that our Constitution represents is being threatened with destruction.

I have a specific and urgent suggestion. You must get your message to all of America. And, I can think of no better way to launch that messaging effort than for you to request 15 min on Oprah. I do not watch tv/cable but I do know that of all the programs, the one with massive brand and an enormous audience, it is Oprah's show.

You should go on her show this week and tell all our fellow citizens how many were systematically prevented from voting. And, explain to them that none of us have a reasonable basis for concluding that our vote was counted as we intended (and, in fact, ~ 30 % of the votes have no mechanism for verification that they were even recorded correctly by the device the voter used).

We must get the message to our fellow citizens that the national election of 2004 is not over until 6 Jan 2005, but, that what we do know now gives us every reason to halt it, remedy the voting mechanism and re-vote. We must prevail.

Thank you,
xxxxxxxxx

5. I've felt uneasy about Bill Moss being involved in this.
A year or two ago he was voted off the Columbus Board of Education. Just before or afterwards he engaged in a bit of eccentric behavior. He came to at least one school board meeting dressed in camouflage. I think if this does gain traction in the media, all of that is going to be dug up on the national scene since he is the lead plaintiff.
