Page A01-Wash Post!: Several Factors Contributed to 'Lost' Voters in Ohio
This is a great article! Anyone who reads it would have to conclude that there was a deliberate effort in Ohio to supress Democrat votes. Lots of info about tactics used for the suppression and how lopsided the problems were, favoring Bush.

This isn't directed totally at you and I thank you for the
link, but I always wonder every time someone posts an article
that needs registration someone always posts the bugmenot
link, but it's still a bit annoying to have to go to yet
another site and enter the url etc...

I think we should spread a new policy on DU that if you post
an article that requires registration you have to put the
bugmenot sign on and password beneath the link to save
everyone else the trouble.

ANd if the poster is unaware of bugmenot, then I would ask any
poster that follows the article with a post of the bugmenot
url to instead JUST POST SIGN ON AND PASSWORD! LOL Just cut
out the middleman ya know? :)

So with that,

8. It's on MSNBC front page!
I think most of the text was picked up by MSNBC. The link can also be found in the politics heading under news on the left. Hope that helps. Its a very strong article and while not covering some of the BradBLog issues, it does talk about the Hout studies and how it was found to be bulletproof. Good News in the MSM.

10. Let's not get too crazy here...The Post story is saying it's accidental.
As long as it's accidental, there is no fraud, there is nothing to see here. Move along.

We need internal memos and emails from Blackwell's office. Phone records. He needs to be taken down.

32. Post presents lots of facts, slant may not matter
Any sane person reading those facts will assume fraud. And Blackwell's sick smile will be wiped from his face as he is frogwalked to jail.

13. The WaPo clearly hadn't done their homework, or chose to slant
the story as "accidental". They left out all the really damning things, like machines in warehouse, 1 of the Kenyon College machines didn't work while the other college had plenty of machines, the pattern of distribution of machines which is so clearly evident on the maps, the tampering on Friday with a Triad, the intimidation and misinformation tactics, preventing the volunteers from looking at public records, leaving the BOE unlocked overnight, running Kathern Sumner (sp?) off the road, etc, etc,.Didn't mention either of Conyer's hearing or the Common Cause meeting. Just referred to the "bubbling anger" among rank and file Democrats.

On the other hand, it was a start. And, didn't use tin-hats, nor conspiracy theorists. Oh, if only we still had Kathern Graham! She must be about ready to rise out of her grave and start haunting the WaPo offices!

In the actual paper, it was on the front page, just below the fold, and was continued on one pagein side.

It's a start! I think it rates a :bounce:

17. You've got to see this thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x161200

there was a "cheat sheet" that the Triad employee posted on the wall so the BOE employees wouldn't have to do a full recount, a way to make the numbers jive.

per the affidavit:

He advised Lisa and I on how to post a "cheat sheet" on the wall so that only the board members and staff would know about it and and what the codes meant so the count would come out perfect and we wouldn't have to do a full hand recount of the county. He left about 5:00 PM.

http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/121604Z.shtml

The New York Times article also omits this part of Sherole Eaton's SWORN AFFIDAVIT.

OK, media blasters, let's get this part of the story out.

Credit to Junkdrawer for finding this and putting a thread on it!

18. My letter to the authors; late yesterday evening (PST)....
Good evening Mr Powell and Mr Slevin,

"OH offers lessons for 2008" - perhaps, but much more immediate issues should be the focus of your journalism and should have been since 2 Nov 2004.

The national election of 2004 is far from over, gentlemen. And, many, many of us have every intention of bringing the process to a halt by 6 Jan 2005. We must not allow the systematic attack on our American franchise of democracy to succeed; we will not permit systemic disenfranchisement to prevail.

Where have you and all your media colleagues been since the 'red shift' of 2 Nov 2004? Where were you when folk from OH to NM were being disenfranchised? Why have you not been at the front of the line demanding Mitofsky release all raw exit poll data from 2 Nov 2004? Why have you not been reporting on the extensive Republican linkage to Diebold, Sequoia and ES&S? Why have you not been reporting to the 30 % of voters on 2 Nov 2004 that they have no way of knowing if their vote was recorded as they intended; counted as they intended? Where is your outrage over what was done to African American and student voters?

I suggest you listen to what Congresswoman Waters had to say on Randi Rhodes on 14 Dec 2004. Read the full text of Moss v Bush. Study carefully Congressman Conyers letter to the FBI regarding Triad. Begin defending our Constitution; our franchise of democracy before it is too late.

Sincerely,
xxxxxxxxx

33. Michael Powell responds, and so do I
Very kind of you to respond Michael.

My point is, we are still engaged in the national election of 2004. Hour by hour, since ~ 9pm EST, 2 Nov 2004, many of our fellow citizens have been gathering and analyzing and recognizing that what is happening in this national election must not be permitted to stand.

By 6 Jan 2005 we should have halted a fundamentally fraudulent process and begun the process of rectifying it. Anything less is to forsake our American franchise of democracy.

You might find the following of interest:

"Folks Don't Get It"
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/12/15/9734/4841

"Why Ohio Matters"
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/12/15/12545/041

A tragic lack of commitment to our democracy and our Constitution was witnessed in the US Senate on 6 Jan 2001. The consequences of that lack of fortitude; that lack of courage on the part of every single member of the US Senate to stand with their patriotic colleagues from the House of Representatives are abundant and grotesque.

Regarding the current status of the national election of 2004, a simple historical summary suffices -- "Besides, sir, we have no election."

We will prevail.

Peace.
xxxx

xxxx,

While the headline--over which we have no control--may have spoken of 2008, we were very much focused on the 2004 election, and explicitly raised the question of voter disenfranchisement and how black voters suffered disproportionately.

Thanks for your note.

19. First time post--can someone get the news out?
Hi everyone:

This is my first post. I wanted everyone to know that Lewis Lapham of Harper's magazine has written a long editorial for the January issue of his magazine. He argues that their are two interpretations of why the Dems lost, and ends up siding with the fraud story. It might not be on the stands yet, but I'm a subscriber and I received mine yesterday.

Since I can't start a new thread yet, maybe someone else could copy this info?? Thanks!

Hi I am reality; thanks for the greeting. I've been obsessively reading DU since the election. I'm actually Canadian, but still concerned.

Lapham also made it clear that he's been reading the blogs every day!

Harper's is a monthly magazine (not the fashion Bazaar!) that's been around for more than 100 years. Lapham is the long-time editor, and he's been extremely critical of the Repubs for several years.

20. HELP. What machines were used in Youngstown, OH
and the three traditionally Democratic counties in Florida.
The article specifically mentions vote shifting with these machines.
Were they all the same types of machines.

I've seen links to machine type by county on DU before, but can't find it.
