15. Sweetie Darling
I've been angry for four years now. It's impossible not to be angry when you see what's going down. I wanted JK to win so I could finally wake up and not be angry anymore. I feel your pain. :)

Joe Scarborough is a mean man, with beady eyes and a dead woman in his FL office, if memory serves. He's already going to the dark place.

We are going into the light...

52. I know
I wake up everyday and wonder what fresh hell will be unleashed. I was arguing with someone who said it didn't matter who was POTUS because there was no difference between the Ds and the Rs. I responded that was BS because when the Dems are in office I know that my Civil Rights won't be taken away while I'm sleeping. I won that argument. They had no response.

Courage! We're gonna get rid of them by hook or by crook. We have to. There's too much at stake. Peace.

A Death in the Congressman's Office

Does Anybody in the Press Care About Lori Klausutis?

By Denis Wright and Chris George

August 8, 2001 (APJP)

Once upon a time, the phrase "investigative reporter" actually meant something. It usually involved hard work, possibly even mentation. Now, it seems, they just make stuff up. Especially on the Fox News Channel, where an uninitiated viewer could easily think she/he had tuned in Comedy Central. It's "Chandra-Chandra-Chandra" with the occasional "Condit is just like Clinton" thrown in. Given our media's 24/7 obsession with the Gary Condit "scandal", you might assume that there is a real dearth of hard news to pursue.

In reality, there is indeed a news story percolating out there. The story bears remarkable and ironic similarities to the Condit/Levy story. Both involve Congressmen, rumors of infidelity, and the fate of a younger female subordinate. The details are so similar as to remind one of two alternate universes. The difference between the two stories? First, in the Klausutis case as not in the Levy case, there is a real body, very dead. Second, the Klausutis case involves a Republican.

The story had a brief flutter in the Northwest Florida press, which ran a few very short stories on Lori's death. With the exception of the Northwest Florida Daily News, they were of the "Aw-what-a-shame/ nothing-to-see-here-move-along-now-folks" variety. But nationally, this mysterious death earned a mere one paragraph mention in The Washington Post's NATION IN BRIEF column:

"FORT WALTON BEACH, FL. - Lori Klausutis, a 28-year-old office worker for Rep. Joe Scarborough (R-Fl), was found dead in the congressman's district office. Police said preliminary findings from the medical examiner's office showed no foul play or any outward indication of suicide."

Unbelievably, that was it. The story was simply dropped.

Our Editorial: 9-15-01- All Hat No Cattle

Republican stronghold gives kid-glove treatment to local U.S. Congressman Joe Scarborough

When this story first broke in the Florida panhandle, we wondered if we were in store for some Gary Condit-style media coverage. Needless to say, this story never made national TV. The big boys of broadcast had their sights set solely on Condit and had no time to cover the unusual death of a healthy, politically active 28-year-old female aide in a U.S. Congressman's district office.

The so-called Liberal national media -- quite the opposite in this instance as in so many others -- felt it was more important to keep plucking feathers from their latest Democrat goose than to ruffle the feathers of a Republican Congressman who unexpectedly resigned just a few months after being reelected. Now an aide had been found dead in his office, but the national news media simply weren't interested.

After all was said and done, a few things became quite clear. The authorities, mainly the police who investigated the scene, gave the appearance of a cover-up by immediately stating that there were no signs of foul play. It subsequently was revealed that the dead woman had a bad wound to her forehead, which seemed to fly in the face of the initial statements by investigators. If this wasn't an example of poor police work, it most certainly was a case of bumbled media and public relations.

How could police rule out foul play until they knew the cause of the wound, before an autopsy was conducted and toxicology tests performed?

The local newspaper, the Northwest Florida Daily News, tried to get information from local authorities and claimed they were sandbagged at every turn.

Other than finding a dead woman in his office. Which I'm sure he said had nothing to do with his resignation. HA! HA! But what was the "fluff" reason he gave?

On edit: Response #29 states "he resigned to spend more time with his sons." Yeh, right.

A Death in the Congressman's Office
Does Anybody in the Press Care About Lori Klausutis?

A young female employee of one of Florida's Congressmen had died unexpectedly in the Congressman's office. There were no witnesses to her death and the cause of death was not apparent. Klausutis' boss, Joe Scarborough had recently resigned from Congress prematurely and unexpectedly, amid rumors about his marital fidelity and soon after a divorce. He had also abruptly resigned as publisher of the Independent Florida Sun, claiming that resigning from Congress and as publisher was necessary to spend more time with his sons.

The results of the mandated autopsy, however, were deemed "inconclusive" by Dr. Michael Berkland.

Dr. Michael Berkland, it turns out, has a very interesting background himself. Recently relocated to Florida, it is a matter of public record that Dr. Berkland's medical license in the state of Missouri was revoked in 1998 as a result of Berkland reporting false information regarding brain tissue samples in a 1996 autopsy report. Berkland does not deny the charges.

It's also a matter of public record that he was suspended from his position as Medical Examiner in the State of Florida in July, 1999.

Comment, Joe?....Joe?

I remember his psychotic tirade at the RNC in '92 (? I believe) and have considered him scum all these years. So has the Repub party gotten SO bad that he is basically a moderate compared to the majority? Is Pat Buchanan to the left of mainstream Republicans? Because I swear he is one of the more rational voices they have anymore. And that is scary, lol.

78. YES. Buchanan is one of the SANE ones now.
Just got his latest book; he is actually sounding RATIONAL.

And that should frighten the hell out of all of us.

83. Buchanan
Buchanan, is consistent, both over time and philosophically. He has a few issues that he can get nutty about (abortion, Nixon), but he has a strong libertarian streak but I wouldn't call him a moderate. I think he's a very conservative "old school" republican.

I really miss "Buchanan & Press" or the old "Crossfire" w/Bill Press, way better than the current "Crossfire" in my book.

I think what seems so strange to you about Pat is that he doesn't change his position just any old time that it's politically expedient and he is civil. I've never been one but a lot of Republicans used to be like that, really.

I missed it but if this is what he said....
its clear they made sure they had on some Dem who would
say just what they wanted people to hear....

Isn't that what Jackson said before he helped lead the fight?

I think these people say this kind of shit who are not following the details of the story.
Any one who knows the details can not prove that Bush is legitimate.

He is just a redneck! Repugs are good are getting people where they are vulnerable and go in for the stab. It is up to us not to let that fear mentality take control. And really, he is just a redneck.

50. Wearing mine now as I type....
in my pj's & slippers ,oops, I forgot to say bunny slippers.

OTOH, I just got home from giving a final, after a day of grading...so maybe I am a bit of a conspiracy theorist.

However, the flying saucer is late for my weekly abduction.

Or it could be because they committed fraud & disenfranchised thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) of voters around the country & have committed the worst crime against this country & its citizens in the history of our republic.

56. Best part: Scartissue complains that nobody is talking about
all the Republicans who ALSO waited in lines! Also with rain! But NOOOO, we don't HEAR about that. Clearly the fault of the liberal media, right?

Too bad Scartissue doesn't have his own show so he could publicize the dubious election results...uh, oh...never mind.

58. We need to stay above his level and not allow him to make us
act toward him on the same level that his supporters act toward Olbermann. He actually made me smile watching him today, he looked so pompous and hyper. PLEASE don't stoop to his level. Send him intelligent emails with facts.
