IMPORTANT! New info about undervotes in New Mexico.
I am sitting here with my friend Carol in Albuquerque right now. She told me that this was her first time voting in an election. She voted on a touch-screen machine. She says that when she tried to skip over one of the categories (a judge race with only one candidate) and go ahead and touched "submit vote," IT WOULDN'T LET HER. The machine wouldn't count her votes unless all the categories were filled in. Therefore, these touch-screen machines were not allowing undervotes to exist AT ALL.

What if all those "undervotes" weren't really undervotes at all. What if they were all Kerry votes. What if 80% of them were Kerry votes.

This is extremely important. Thoughts?

(By the way there were also many complaints from both Democrats and Republicans who had their votes changed from Kerry to Bush and vice versa, but ONLY for straight ticket voting - the system works great doesn't it?)

3. Are you sure?
I would think we would have heard more about this if true; after all, you aren't required to vote in any particular race, and it would have been painfully obvious.

8. Well, if you'd like to call Carol and talk to her about it, that can be
arranged.

11. Oh, we heard about it.

From EIRS:

036563 New Mexico Bernalillo Bernalillo County Clerk's Office 10/29/04 2004-11-02 10:02:36 PST Machine problem Voter wanted to leave blank where only one Republican candidate running for office, machine kept saying not finished when tried to submit votes, after three tries, voter was able to leave blank, voter was also concerned about not receiving any kind of ticket or receipt reflecting vote 35 001

4. I heard before the election that straight party ticket voting was
really going to cause problems. It wouldn't register a vote for Prez in NC (I think - one of the Carolinas).

In Indiana we know it screwed up. Isn't that where it assigned Kerry straight party ticket votes to the Libertarian ticket in one county?

Ohio didn't have straight party ticket voting. Iowa did have it.

5. I just found out in Indiana...you had to vote a straight party ticket
or your vote would be thrown out. My family and friends had no idea.

7. Well, since they killed the Greens recount there
we will never know. However, this may be of some interest in Ohio where they did use the touch-screen machines. Question is: to whom do you submit it? I keep getting my e-mails to the Cobb people returned, and this isn't an Arnebeck issue.

12. The Recount Is NOT Dead
They are taking further steps and, if necessary, there might be enough money to pay for doing the whole damn state. It's not a done deal yet so don't give up hope.

10. Please PM me with...
the actual precinct number or location where this occurred, and, if she remembers, which race she tried to skip.

Thanks
HG

14. Okay. I don't know if she's going to know the precinct number, but
I can get the address and I'll try to get the name of the race. She has gone to bed.
