Ohio vote: It's valid, complete ... and over
At least that's the headline from Advertiser-Tribune.com, Seneca County's online source for news and information

Ohio vote: It's valid, complete ... and over
Thursday, December 16, 2004 12:35:40 AM EST

People from unhappy supporters of John Kerry to minority party leaders to Jesse Jackson continue to whine and file lawsuits about the Nov. 2 voting in Ohio.
The allegations range from improper and/or incomplete counting of ballots, to lack of efficiency at some polling places, to a Republican conspiracy to keep voters away from the polls in some urban areas that traditionally are heavily Democratic.

Consider this:

* There has not been one shred of evidence to indicate that the accuracy of the voting and counting was any less that in previous elections. And Ohio does not have a bad elections record.

* The boards of elections and people manning the polls in Ohio counties are half Democrats and half Republicans. The Democrats who were directly involved in arranging and conducting the election are not the ones making the charges.

* There were precincts in Ohio in which voters had to wait one or more hours to get into the booth. But county boards were told to postpone buying new electronic equipments mandated by Congress after the 2000 election, until the state was satisfied that a reliable paper trail could be guaranteed with the electronic machines. If millions of dollars had been spent to buy additional outmoded equipment just for this election, far more people would be complaining about the waste than now are upset about how the election was run.

The election is over.

The whiners should take a cue from John Kerry and acknowledge the outcome.

If they need a cause, they could be among those making sure that reliable, accountable and affordable electronic voting devices are available for elections in the future.

That would be a lot more productive than filing lawsuits and causing expensive recounts that will produce the same results we've already seen.

Welp, you heard 'em, time to roll over a sleep till the next election. :dunce:

21. I use Google a lot
to find proof to back up statements I make. I don't want to be accused of "makin' this sh*t up."

If you're a really bad speller, like me, you sometimes find really weird stuff (mostly Republican crap)

Hmmm, seems they "like" horses, just not progressive people.

I'd call them a bunch of horses' asses, but I don't want to insult a good equine!

"There has not been one shred of evidence to indicate that the accuracy of the voting and counting was **any less that in previous elections**."

Are they thinking of 2000? 2002? (ha, ha, ha!)

I also liked this one: That we should all put our "whining" energy into getting everybody "reliable, accountable and affordable electronic voting devices."

Gee, what is it that we have now? (You notice they don't mention "verifiable"--i.e., with paper trail and open source code. "Reliable." Hm-m-m. Reliable for whom?)

The owners of the Advertiser-Tribune must have stock in Diebold and ES&S.

It has begun. "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." --Gandhi (We're somewhere between "laugh" and "fight.")

4. Wow, talk about missing the boat, I thought that
trying to make "sure that reliable, accountable and affordable electronic voting devices are available for elections in the future' was what this was all about. How is anyone going to come up with a reliable system if we dont figure how unreliable the current one is. It reminds me of an old saying from politics and elections in 1930s Chicago; "Other than a bit of graft, deceit and corruption, it went really smoothly".

Someone needs to explain the basics to the people at the Advertiser-Tribune. And very slowly.

9. Assuming the exit polls were wrong (which I doubt),
We're supposed to ignore those news reports of early votes being switched and Democratic registrations being ripped up? I think not.

20. The Watergate burglars did not steal two elections!!
Who said, "I'm not a crook," while the coverup continued?

All to often, it's the cover-up that does the most damage.
