1. I've said this umpteen times.
And they must be counted by hand as all machines must be taken out of the equation. It is a mistake to believe that it is okay to use machines to count the ballots as you have the paper ballots in the event of a recount. We have all seen that recounts are obstructed, so it is imperative that all ballots are reliably counted the first time.

2. No S**T
And the stupid Congresspeople think all they need to do is push through "verified paper records" and "ban the use of undisclosed software and wireless communications devices". See H.R. 2239. My congresswoman from MN Betty McCollum is a co-sponsor of this bill. I just wrote her today complaining that the congresspeople are either completely uninformed about the problems with our election system or willfully obtuse.

I explained that ELECTRONIC VOTING SYSTEMS ARE NOT SECURE AND CAN NEVER BE MADE TO BE SECURE.

This whole scheme was cooked up by Republicans to steal elections and, adding insult to injury, to make money off of their sales of these rigged machines--using OUR tax money!

PAPER BALLOTS. HAND COUNTED. PERIOD. AND a CONSTITUTIONALLY PROTECTED RIGHT TO VOTE.

5. hand counted, IN THE PRECINCT, with plenty of observers from all parties
eliminates the ballot-boxes-in-the-river problem, makes it harder to stuff the ballot box, etc.

Canada does it this way, and it works just fine for them. Makes absofuckinlutely no sense that so few want to do it that way here (but, oh WAIT, then the big fuckin repug voting machine corporations can't make lots of $$$$$)
