WA: Only KING county left now, Gregoire behind by 50
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 08:00 PM by merwin
Looks like she's going to win! King county is HUGE and is a democratic stronghold. Of the 3 largest counties (King, Snohomish, and Pierce), Snohomish and Pierce have produced big gains for Gregoire.

Look for big gains for Gregoire in King county, easily surpassing the 50 she is behind.

Keep up with the action at:
http://vote.wa.gov/general/recount_resultsbycounty.aspx

Although King county won't report done until early next week

2. Would that be without counting the 723 ballots that were
erroneously not counted and which are, for the moment, not going to be counted after all?

7. Yes.
http://vote.wa.gov/general/recount.aspx

As of 4:45 PST Dec 17 only King County is left and the thing stands thusly:

Gregoire (D) +561
Rossi (R) +569

So even without the contested ballots, Gregoire stands an excellent chance of overtaking Rossi.

12. We should raise hell about those votes!
Every vote should be counted, but a partisan one sided legal technicality move is depriving people of their most basic vote rights--just because they're from an area that supposedly is hiding Democratic insurgants blah, blah, blah...

4. I'll venture a prediction:
Rossi will win by 3 votes or something.

I think the rig is deeper than we at first supected. The "big gains" were just ruled out by a court. I would like to read that decision. I am deeply concerned over the way this is unfolding...

I smell problems in the recount effort from the reports I am getting. Dems don't really seem concerned, media unattentive, votes found in closets seems to be permissible play by republican agents. Too much for me. I feel like I'm being set up for a big fall.

We'll see, and I hope I'm wrong.

5. No, the big gains were in other counties. King was the one with the ~700
extra votes. She gets to keep these votes :-)

9. I think those 700 votes were just put on hold in King County. So I hope
she has the votes there anyway. The repukes are going to fight tooth and nail to keep those 700 from being counted. That is what they do, they are a disgrace.

14. The trend from Snohomish and Pierce
shows each candidate picking up about 100/100,000 votes cast. If that trend continues, Gregoire would pick up another ~500-630 votes in King County, and Rossi ~350. That would put Gregoire over the top by at least 100 votes even without the 700 misplaced ballots, which would break for her 5:3.5, giving her another 200 votes net.

Gregoire Pierce 145,000, picked up 232
Rossi Pierce 157,000, picked up 201

Gregoire Snohomish 139,000 picked up 119
Rossi Snohomish 145,000 picked up 75

Gregoire seems to be picking up about 1/800, Rossi 1/1,100. If that trend holds she will net over 300 votes in King County without the misplaced and contested ballots.

Gregoire King 505,000 projected pickup 500-630
Rossi King 351,000 projected pickup 350

19. Good numbers to help me understand this
I have been watching this closely and have noticed the numbers of additional votes not matching always following the county's trend. In Whatcom county where Gregoire won she had a net loss of six votes, so I am not sure how King county will really go.

My take on the 700+ additional votes in King county is that the Supreme Court will allow the counting of these votes (Gregoire should pick up over 150 votes). In their earlier decision they said they would not order a statewide counting of additional ballots, but it is up to the individual counties to decide how their votes will be counted. How can the Supreme Court stop these 700+ ballots when there have already been over 1000 new votes counted in the hand recount. Gregoire (D) +561 Rossi (R) +569

I do believe our state will get it right. Glad we are fighting for every vote here. After all we did vote to kick b*sh's ass back to Crawford.

I grew up in Kirkland, but now live in Baltimore.

So its fun to watch some hopeful action from the home state.

Democrats will never be any power in this country again unless they all realize the depth of the Republican election rigging treachery and oppenly fight every "error" every step of the way. If Kerry would have been doing that since the day after the election, he would almost certainly have won, but he conceeded to soon and then let to much time go by. ALL of the resources left in his campaign should have been devoted to fighting this nation wide fraud.

I hope the Washington State Democrats are feisty enough to pull this one off and achieve Justice! But it will only happen if all along there is meticulous research of fraud and the recount is done in a way which exposes the whole scam, and the Democrats really fight to get a proper accounting of every vote out there.

If the Democrats in Washington state are just the slightest bit naive, sloppy or defeatest, they certainly WILL LOSE BY A HANDFUL OF VOTES. Indeed, the rig here is very deep and the only way we can win is if the recount is part of a comprehensive criminal fraud investigation and we can really pin down how the election was rigged to begin with, and by who.

10. From the Washington SoS website (see link above)
The Secretary of State is projecting that all counties will have certified results by December 23, 2004. After all counties have certified results, the Secretary of State will file an amended abstract of the manual recount returns that will be the final count of the Governor’s race.

22. Well, remember, this is King county...

Don't count your eggs before they hatch. With all that goes on in King, who knows what might happen? What if they come out with a spurious Rossi point bonus in the normal ballots?

:-)
