A dumb question regarding donation requests for recounts |
|
Can someone help me understand why we regular people are footing the bills for the recounts?
Didn't George Soros donate like 50 trillion dollars to Dem leaning groups? Can't he pull a couple mil out of his sofa cushions and throw it to our guys? Where's Moveon's millions? Mediafund? We already donated hundreds and hundreds more than we can truly afford to. I send money to congressional candidates in other states. We have already funded what we needed to fund. Time to cross my name off the e-mail list.
What am I missing?

6. This cause is worthwhile.... |
|
If I could contribute to BlackBoxVoting (and I did), I can certainly contribute to the one fund that is taking ACTION and is the most likely to reap rewards.
Frankly, I am very surprised that this lawsuit could be funded with just $200,000. From what I know of these kinds of legal cases, Cliff Arnebeck is mostly already working Pro Bono. If he weren't the costs would be MUCH higher. It costs a lot for filing fees, copying fees, etc., etc. Much more than you would think.
Yes, it is disappointing that the money contributed before the election is not being used. And, I don't know why. But, I think John Kerry has integrity, and I trust his judgment. He did not make off with the funds, folks. He has no reason to do that. I believe there is a reason that he feels he cannot be the source of this funding.
I am thinking that a donation to Mr. Arnebeck would be worthwhile...if only to get regular updates by e-mail. I know people have been burned with the multitude of pleas for financial support. But, of all the causes, this one strikes me as most worthwhile.

2. Thanks...very good question |
|
$200,000 is nothing to Soros or his ilk. Even Kerry had 15mil "left over." And WE have to foot the bill? Does the democratic party have "sucker" written all over it? And Cliff, what about Pro Bono work? What are you in this for, the publicity, the cash, or THE SAFEGUARDING OF DEMOCRACY?

3. Maybe Soros thinks its a lost cause? n/t |
|
And would rather spend the money on other causes he thinks are more constructive?

4. Not a dumb question at all |
|
I've been thinking the exact same thing and getting tired of all the emails requesting yet MORE donations. I support the cause but I'm really tired of being hit on to give still MORE.

7. Soros didnt give all that money..millions, yes..not trillions |
|
And his quest is worldwide democrcay.
Some feel the best thing Soros could do now is financially invest in a Television Network with un reproachable standards and ethics.

8. Results, Results, Results!! |
|
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 04:30 PM by adolfo
There are so many organizations asking for money I've decided to donate to those that provide results or have a clear intent statement. I'm tired of lip service. Can someone remind me how long it has been since the 2004 election?
Sorry for this rant. We (2 folks) spent $50 to verify over 1500 ballots in Orange County Florida. It took us less than a week to schedule it. All this was done under a public records request.
Why should it take longer for a large organization that really wants to verify the votes?

9. Actually, there are TWO organizations that are really working on this. |
|
Arnebeck's wonderful team is raising funds so they can mount a really substantial effort in their election challenge suit before the Ohio Supreme Court. They're working their buns off and deserve support.
The Help America Recount Fund htttp://helpamericarecount.org is helping with the Ohio RECOUNT (different effort) and is fully responsible ... financially, legally and operationally ... for the New Mexico recount, which isn't dead yet, despite the outrageous demand for $1.4 in advance. The recounts are under the Cobb/Badnarik banner, because Kerry wouldn't do it.
