I'm beginning to think that this election is intended as a lesson . . .
from the Universe (or God, if you prefer) to us . . .

BushCo exemplifies all of the worst qualities of Americans:

- the caring only about what affects you directly
- the macho "go-it-alone" attitude
- the profligate waste of resources
- the living beyond one's means and running up huge debts
- the not caring what anyone else thinks, or how your actions impact others
- the rape of the land and the environment
- the taking what you want, regardless of who owns it or who your actions might harm
- the notion of entitlement and specialness that somehow makes you better than everyone else
- the neglect of those less fortunate ("I got mine!")
- and on, and on, and on . . .

this election is the Universe's way of saying "Okay, America . . . have at it. Here's a chance for you to really express yourselves as Americans. Let's see what happens when you do."

and what happens when we do ain't gonna be pretty . . . but it WILL be a wakeup call that changes our ways, because we won't have any choice . . .

this election is the Universe giving this country, as personified by BushCo, enough rope to hang itself . . . it's going to be interesting to watch, to say the least . . .

1. They will hang themselves
The one good thing about democracy is that no matter how "unified" a large group of people claim to be, there will always be dissent, and eventually, it will crumble.

I post at a conservative message board as well. There is a little "secret club" for supposedly the elite conservatives of the board. For most of the past year, it has been a huge civil war between the conservatives on that board, and it is now to the point where they are out for blood with each other. I just sit back and enjoy the entertainment. I have faith that the same thing will happen with the republican party.

5. Lets help them along...
Buy nothing, and our tottering economy will preempt every little scheme they have. An economic expression of might, where every other means of expression has failed. You can complain and moan in their deaf ear for the next four years, or you can stop buying the cars and electronics and toys that fuel this rotten system and have an immediate impact.

7. I'll do it
I will keep my spending to a minimum. I would like to see a total collapse of the economy...OK, that's the bitterness in me talking.

9. Let 'America's growing culture war'
be their demise. The Evangels watch Fox and only Fox for thier news. It just so happens that regular Fox broadcasting is the channel with the least 'family values programming' of the networks. Let the fundies battle Murdoch over his programming.

We should encourage the fundies to pursue their knuckledragging agenda RIGHT NOW. You Fundies got Bush and the R's complete control of gov. The now CAN enact all of your pet legislation banning gays, stoning adulterers etc. When the R's refuse- we win as Robertson will form his own party, leaving only the traditional R's who really screwed us this election. If the R's do it, let them get away with it and show the electorate that knuckledragging is on the way. Non-fundie R's will be flocking out of the party!!! Either way it is a (longterm and bumpy) VICTORY!!! The fundies and traditionals cannot remain united if the fundie agenda is pursued either way!!

10. We didn't get it.
I have been arguing that we could not outstupid the Republicans--it can't be done, that we had to outsmart them. William Saletan and I agree that that was the Democratic strategy, to be smarter than the Republicans. But he is now arguing that we must outsimple them to beat them, working under the false premise that their strength was their simplicity of message. He is mistaken.

Their strength is that they never underestimated their supporters' willingness to accept, even support, evil.

They were open and blatant in their pursuit of evil. We were shocked. Their evil exposed, they will be ejected from the White House we thought. We were mistaken. Their evil exposed, their supporters became more shrill in their support, more vehement in their insistence that evil is good.

You cannot outsmart, outstupid or outsimple evil, but evil will be defeated.
