Raw Story: Some details emerge on expected Kerry action...

From what I've heard, it's more substantial than Kerry's Ohio counsel's letters to Blackwell, but my sense is that DUers/etc. shouldn't get their hopes up on anything too big. I don't expect Kerry to suddenly announce proof of fraud, for example, though given how cursory my knowledge is on this specific action, I could certainly be wrong.

My source says it has real potential to be more of an issue that previous Kerry camp letters. We do expect it today.

I am a bit concerned that too many of us expecting this big "breakthrough announcement" from Kerry today (we are all, after all, longing for this). Please remember that we have a very long road ahead of us here and even with Kerry's full support, we are dealing with massive obstacles that are not going to easy to break through- if you think the Repugs are going to give in without a huge battle, you are incorrect. I'm not, by any means, saying to give up hope or that we should for one moment, give up this fight-- but this is just a reminder that the unraveling and disclosing of details are going to take an enormous effort- in everyone's parts- and we need to be patient and vigilant in our work, as we watch the events unfold in the days and weeks ahead.

We can do this- and we must. Our democracy is counting on it.

it's something EASY for the public to wrap its tiny little mind around. If it's complicated, with lots of graphs and charts and algebraic formulas and "if/thens"... it ain't gonna fly. We'll just get the "Loserman/Get Over It" schtick all over again.

To be honest, I don't have my hopes up -- how many times have I seen the words "This is gonna be the final nail in the coffin for the Bush cabal, this is what will bring them down, get ready folks" here at DU. I'll believe it when I see a Democrat sitting in the Oval Office. Sorry to be beyond jaded, but I've been really depressed since December 12, 2000.

Dear Mr. Kerry,
I teach high school and I was hoping to give a
different perspective re: the 2004 election fraud. I
love what I do. My students are indeed the future of
this country and it concerns me when they express
cynical and jaded views regarding the direction of our
political system. These young adults see things
fairly black and white because they have not had the
life experiences that often taint our beliefs as we
grow older. Therefore, I find it critically
imperative that these young adults have a moral
compass and role models that embrace honor, integrity
and courage. They are watching us closely right now
and it becomes increasingly difficult to explain that
corruption hasn't infected everything throughout this

23. Hand recounts need independent checks

I am glad to hear that Kerry is (effectively) requesting real hand recounts of these bad counties. However, if the workers in these counties were willing to do what Triad told them and report numbers that match the previous machine recounts, then why would they not just report those same numbers again, regardless of what the manual recount shows?

To avoid this, we need some independent checks on the manual recount process. E.g don't let the counters know what precincts they are counting, and have them report the count publically before recording it. Or have independent observers actually keep a running tally as well.

Impounding the machines should be done anyway. They must both impound the machines and do manual recounts of the entire counties.
