Focus on Will's last paragraph & BradBlog statement & MAKE IT HAPPEN
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 01:34 PM by understandinglife
http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/122404Y.shtml

"Perhaps the most significant aspect of all this, from the activist point of view, has been the effectiveness of the telephone calls and letters to Kerry. The activist push to get him involved had a very significant effect on his decision to enter this effort. Likewise, calls to other Senators in order to convince them to join House members in challenging the election have likewise had significant effect. If such an effort continues, the activists involved will very likely see the desired result unfold."

Thank you Will; very much for those statements.

Related statements can be found at BradBlog -- Brad's first, formal endorsement of major activism:

http://www.bradblog.com/archives/00001072.htm

To wit:

"At this time, The BRAD BLOG officially endorses such an action in the U.S. Congress, based on so many of the reports we have now seen that no longer give us confidence in our electoral system. If such an action is necessary to bring attention to this growing confidence crisis, then we heartily endorse it and will work to help ensure that at least one Senator comes on board this time around. One is all it will take.

The Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) have set up an easy online form, to help convince a few key senators. http://capwiz.com/pdamerica/mail/oneclick_compose/?alertid=6770366

As well, we have been receiving more and more comments and email in regard to people hitting the streets to reclaim their democracy based on everything we have seen, reported on, and helped to ferret out since November 2nd.

To that end, it is now the official BRAD BLOG position that people should indeed begin "hitting the streets" in this regard."

We will prevail. And can anyone imagine a better gift to give to all future generations than our convincing OUR congressional representatives to halt the fraudulent presidential election of 2004, investigate, prosecute and, most importantly, REVOTE in an equitable access, honest count of every vote.

2. Thank you for your comments. And, I do urge people to call...
....along with other activities. And, call the State offices of your respective House and Senate members of the 109th Congress. I find that talking to the local office folk to be stimulating for them and they do 'get it'; at least the ones I've spoken.

And, calling the editorial management of major local news media is important as well. Give'um an 'ear full.'

Peace.

3. Oh, and here is a simple letter that I sent to every Dem Senator...
.....and a number of Republican Senators and various HR members, yesterday:

&&&&&&&&&&&&&

22 December 2004

Dear Senator _____________,

We have no election.

Anyone willing to spend five minutes with the facts of the national election process of 2004 will recognize a scandalous display of disenfranchisement and violations of civil and voter rights.

We have no election.

Every member of the 109th Congress, on 6 Jan 2005, should stand and challenge the national election of 2004.

Halt, investigate and re-vote are the only responsible actions. We the people will accept nothing less.

Your choice, Senator __________ -- will you do your duty to the Constitution and the people or will you support an illegal, invalid election?

We have no election.

We will be watching what you do on and before 6 Jan 2005.

You will etch your place in history on that day: either as a patriot and defender of our American franchise of Democracy, or as a supporter of the disenfranchisement of our fellow citizens at a time when the Nation is at war.

Your choice.

Thank you.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Just cut/copy/paste/edit -- anyone who wants to use it.

14. Yes; here is the specific quote and link at BradBlog
"Meanwhile, Clint Curtis is standing by the phone, prepared to speak to any and all media folks who are willing to ask him serious questions. And they needn't be limited to seven.

The BRAD BLOG is willing to help such organizations contact Mr. Curtis. We can be emailed here. Mr. Olbermann, as he knows, already has our private telephone number. We too are standing by the phones and happy to help."

Link:
http://www.bradblog.com/archives/00001071.htm

I also want to point to the fact that Brad has been exceptionally diligent in maintaining a 'neutral' investigative stance on the Clint Curtis story and, as you can see if you read the following link, that has tempered his endorsement of activist efforts. You can also see that the inflection moment has happened by reading the full story at this link:

Peace.

6. "Roger that"; and buzzflash has a link to your story....

And, just hearing the change in tone of voice of those answering calls at various Senate and HR offices when I begin explaining the scale of the threat to our Constitution and our fellow citizens, has been most gratifying. I urge everyone to have that experience, many times between now and 6 Jan 2005 -- and thereafter!

Thanks again Will; you can count on 24x7 service from me and I'm sure many, many other fine patriotic citizens dedicated to saving our American franchise of democracy.

Peace.

10. Email is good; fax even better; and calls -- here are links that I use..
....all the time (though they are for the 108th not 109th Congress because the 109th info will not likely be posted until 3 Jan 2005):

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

http://www.house.gov/house/MemberWWW.shtml

I typically send Fax's to both their DC # and their local office #s.

Between now and 6 Jan 2005, probably best to focus on their local offices -- phone and fax.

Peace.

13. Not to be a party pooper, but ...
Considering it is December 23rd, and the latest day to REALLY change anything as far as I can tell is January 6th, isn't this really a bit too late to make any difference? Even assuming it gets filed today, everything Federal government is likely closed tomorrow, then you lose the weekend, so you have 4 days next week, and 3 days the following week. If you're looking to set the grounds for impeachment, wonderful, but even if they somehow force a TRUE recount, there's no way to get it done before January 6th. And even if they challenge the electoral votes on January 6th, if there isn't concrete evidence showing that Kerry won, the Repukes will just vote Bush in anyway.

If I'm wrong and just don't understand the situation, please explain it to me, and how this really changes what will happen over the next 2 weeks. And yes, I understand, that federal judges are likely to be better than the state judges (including the State Supreme Court), with the obvious exception of the U.S. Supreme Court. But can they really order a full, manual, count every vote recount that would be done by January 6th? Or can they order a new election? I would think only a state court could do that, do the fact that election laws are all state specific.

Prove me wrong, let me know what I'm missing.

Thanks!

15. The goal, at the very least....
...is to make sure a senator joins a house member in contesting the election. There's no better way to force this issue into the mainstream media, bring it into the homes of most Americans, and make sure the election issues get addressed.

19. So is there a chance of changing the outcome, or
Are we just trying to fix the system for next time?

The fact is, the Democrats SUCK at convincing people that every vote should count and be counted. Unless they have a better message than in 2000, they're going to get EATEN ALIVE by Fox and the Repukes if they challenge the results. And they better have facts that O'Wily and Sean Pansy can't spin or it will hurt the cause, not help it.

Sorry to be cynical, but this crap should have been fixed after 2000, and it wasn't.

24. Most of us 'have a clue' OK. & we can multitask so while I'm...
....responding to your pedantic statements I'm on a conference call with several citizen patriots who are organizing various actions between now and 6 Jan.

Why don't you take a break from DU and start calling your respective Senate and HR members of the 109th Congress and explain to them why the current presidential election is invalid and why they should challenge it on 6 Jan 2005.

I assure you, if even one Senator and one member of the HR challenge on 6 Jan 2005 we will have established the most profound basis for remedy to the current disenfranchisement fiasco and the basis for massive systemic reform of future election procedures.

So, how 'bout it. Are you going to get to work or just post more of your insights?

Peace.

Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 02:06 PM by pointsoflight
Whether you're in the camp that's still holding out hope for changing the results of this election, or you're in the camp that wants to make it clear that Bush doesn't have a "mandate," or you're in the camp that's looking forward and wants the electoral process fixed for future elections, the course of action is the same:

We must do EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to put a spotlight on all of the problems in this year's election--from the suppression and dienfranchisement, to the undue influence of partisan politicians like Blackwell, to the poor security and transparency of our election system, to the possibility of tampering--and do so NOW while the iron is still hot.

30. We had a MEETING with Senate Staff Today >> You Can TOO!
Calls, letters, telegrams, faxes, carrier pigeon...all good actions!

BUT BEST, is personal meeting with staff or Senator themselves.

We met with NJ Senators' staff today to make the case. They are definitely interested in the whys and wherefores for objecting.

You can find some at our FAQ page: www.deanpeople.org

You can email us for more help: thedeanpeople@comcast.net

But get a meeting if you can. If you're a contributor, demand one. Sit in the outer office until someone will see you. Use all your remotest personal contacts (didn't your sister's friend once date the senator?).

Now's the time to call in all chits.

Stress the consequences of FAILURE to ACT (yet again). Let them know the train is leaving and they'll be left at the station. Do whatever you can.

(Become one of "thedeanpeople," the ones who stop thinking what "they" should be doing, and start doing it for them. The ones that scare the crap out of the toadies in DC. Trust us, it feels great!)

(The opinions expressed on the website are not necessarily those of the site visitors. Although we haven't run into that case as of yet.)

Desperately Seeking Senators.

On January 6, 2005, the House and Senate will meet to consider the electoral vote count. Progressive members of the House Representatives will challenge the vote count based on the voting irregularities and recount efforts still underway. Urge your Senator to stand with the Representatives. To avoid a repeat of the 2000 silence from the Senate. This action also targets potential Senators whom are allies on this cause.
