Message I just got from John Kerry
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 03:20 PM by berni_mccoy
Dear berni_mccoy,

I hope this message finds you and your loved ones enjoying the holidays. I have been thinking a lot about what our johnkerry.com community can do to mark the end of what has been an extraordinary year. We have formed bonds of friendship and commitment that I know will extend far into the future.

So, in addition to thanking you once again for all you have done, I'm writing to invite your participation in one final 2004 act of collective generosity. As a soldier, I remember how much it meant to hear from loved ones - especially at the holidays. So, I thought you and I could work together to make it easier for our soldiers serving in Iraq to phone home and hear a friendly voice.

We've found a program that does just that. Operation Phone Home is run by the USO, which has been an extraordinary friend to American soldiers for decades. The USO buys phone cards at cost and provides them to our soldiers free of charge. You can help the USO help our troops this holiday season right here:

http://www.uso.org/carddonations

In January, I will go to Iraq to see the situation firsthand and personally visit with our courageous troops who are serving America so well. Nothing would please me more than telling them that hundreds of thousands of us have expressed our thanks to them in this concrete and personal way.

Your gift can help a soldier phone home.

http://www.uso.org/carddonations

In the New Year, I will be writing you about our 2005 projects and priorities. In the meantime, I hope you will enjoy this special time of year. Thanks so much for your constant acts of friendship and your special consideration of this request.

Sincerely,

John Kerry

P.S. There are 140,400 U.S. military members serving in Iraq. Any calls they make home to those anxiously awaiting their safe return are at their own expense. A gift of $100 will provide 20 soldiers with a 100-minute phone card. A $1,000 donation would do the same for 200 soldiers. Please help. A friendly and familiar voice can mean so much to a soldier serving America so far away from home.

1. Does this sound like someone who is about to contest the election?
I'm honestly asking... what do you all think?

Also, I think they should take $100 of my TAX MONEY and use that to allow 20 soldiers to call home.

4. All it sounds like is someone who cares about the soldiers.

And extends warm wishes. I wish both sides of this
he will/He won't fight would stop reading into evey damn thing he says or doesn't say. Sometimes a holiday greetong is just a holiday greeting! Personally, I think this is avery nice gesture. How many other politicians have written to ask you to do ANYTHING for the soldiers? My guess is ZIP!

2. *laughs* Some things never change - the format of Kerry's emails is
apparently one of them.

5. just got my letter from President Kerry also
He certainly acts more presidential than the clown sitting in the oval office.

And what do you make of this?

Can we have a shadow government, please, until we kick out the shrub and put Kerry in his righful place?

7. I don't make much out of it.
But it's sad that the warmonger is still in office, sitting comfortably behind his desk. I'd love to see HIM step foot in Iraq nowadays.

6. Is THIS the big announcement?
Be nice to our troops?

A day late and a dollar short, sez I.

Where is the big important development that was supposed to happen today?

10. Actually, I'm pretty big on Supporting the Troops
Somebody has to do it, and it sure as hell won't be little shrub and the yellow ribbon SUV "Moral Values my *ss" voters.

Alas, this was not the big news, but "a day late and a dollar short"????

John Kerry is the real deal, a hero, a patriot, and a compassionate leader that knows what it means to be away from home for the holidays. He knows what it means to embark on a mission and not know who will return. Families are losing loved ones. They will never have another Christmas with them EVER. Have some decency and compassion.

Sorry for the rant, but the more I think about it, the more p*ssed off I become.

14. Just Bought 100 Minutes For 5 Soldiers
Support the troops even if their mission is a bloody joke (literally). Even though our brave men and women are giving their lives to make the Middle East safe for Halliburton, the fact that they remain an all-volunteer force is very important.

The Pentagon has begun to divulge that morale is really low over there and nothing can serve as a shot in the arm better than phoning home.

Give as generously as you can. Our troops deserve nothing less!

16. Someone should find out if * asked his supporters to donate
to help the troops - or are they just donating to his coronation!

I think we all ought to talk up with liberal talk show hosts and write letters to the editors asking why all this money is being poured in to this inauguration when troops are dying and being horribly maimed. Let's make * and the Repukes look more even more callous and shameful! :grr:

BTW, I donated $25 to the USO just now in memorium to my Uncle Chuck who I never met because he died in WWII at 18 years old. Wouldn't even allow him the time in 1944 to graduate with his high school class.

After the holidays I'm putting a bumper sticker on my car that says "Draft Young Republicans".

9. Isn't this fishy????
All of the letters that are coming out today from the "Kerry/Edwards" campaign and an appeal from Kerry for donations? Pardon me, but I'm suspicious here.....

Isn't it feasible that some hacker is playing with us? Every letter I ever got from John Kerry included his cursive signature at the bottom.
:wtf:

11. that link goes to the USO site. That would be pretty ballsy of someone
to try to fake you out on such a visible organization, don't you think?

13. My take exactly
Kerry emails are distinct and a uso website can be faked! I don't have a dime to spare anyway but I would be happy to buy a phone card and send it along to a soldier if I KNEW everything was on the up and up. This is a strange day on thi site!

12. This is a Dup thread in DU but I have donated to phone home campaign
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 03:53 PM by GetTheRightVote
I think he just cares about the soldiers because he use to be one of our boys over there and so he understands more then others what they are going thru over there. We will never know that world or understand their pain but I hope a phone call home will help them to make it thru that day.

17. At least Kerry gives a sh*t about the service men & women...
I get more leadership from JFK via email than *. That says a lot. So, tired of all the b*tching here about JFK. Also, Jerrold Nadler sent email along with the kerry/Edwards (2) I got earlier.
