4. Oh no...
Rossi isn't going to concede. To quote Komo4 News...

The Republicans have refused to concede the race, raising the possibility that it could drag on for weeks. But they are running out of options.

Shortly before the King County canvassing board met on Thursday, the Republicans countered with their own claims of overlooked ballots, submitting affidavits from 91 people who says they voted for Rossi and believe their ballots were erroneously rejected.

However, the board declined to consider the 91 other ballots. Dean Logan, the county's elections director, said those ballots would not be considered because they were properly rejected.

Republicans were also rebuked in their efforts to blanket the state over the next week looking for Rossi voters whose ballots were mistakenly disqualified. And they said they knew of military voters overseas who say they never received their ballots.

But Secretary of State Sam Reed, a Republican, said state law allows such recanvassing only before counties certify their results.

Yakima County Auditor Corky Mattingly, the president of the Washington State Association of County Auditors, added that auditors statewide have agreed they will not grant any requests to recanvass.

She says everyone agreed with Reed's interpretation of the law -- that counties don't have the legal authority to recanvass after their results have already been certified.

7. WTF is WRONG with these people??????????????
The election results have not been certified and will likely be challenged in court.

Republicans say the contest isn't over yet.

"We're going to be going across the state demanding they make every vote count," Rossi spokeswoman Mary Lane said earlier today.

Since Election Day, Gregoire has gone from favorite to underdog and back to favorite. Democrats paid $730,000 for the hand recount. By law the state has to repay the party if the recount reverses the results.

Secretary of State Sam Reed is scheduled to certify the election next Thursday. After that, Republicans may pursue a legal challenge. State law allows any registered voter to challenge election results.

10. To put it simply
They're criminal... I actually watched the Washington Republican Chairman Chris Vance say, with a straight face, "If they're going to the change the rules, then we have every right to do so ourselves". They're not used to the democratic process taking place, or the result that comes about when it does take place.

Oh, *now* they are concerned about making every vote count. Funny how that works.

15. I hope Chris Vance (the Repub GOP operative) fights it tooth and nail
I want him to throw the biggest political hissy fit anyone has ever seen, I want all eyes on Washington, so they can show everyone how ridiculous it looks for them to drag things out beyond this point, especially considering the playground language they're using in the process.

So the Washington Repubs are hollering to count every vote now? That's exactly what they were trying to stop :eyes:

Fine, I say, just fine. Go for it. And when it comes to Ohio, baby, what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

20. I would also like to see the Repubs fight this tooth and nail with
their money and with millions of eyes protecting the integrity of the task.

It will make them, once again, the world's biggest hypocrites because they cannot say just get over it. It's our turn!

However, on the other hand, if anyone wants to enlighten me about their reasons for contesting the recount results, I'll consider its merits to the best of my abilities to understand their position and the outcome.

If they do get to contest it and it drags out, I want to see one of the WA newspaper editiors say - just get over it.

34. Let them. The more it stays in MSM news, the better Arnebecks chances
for attention. WA State has set a precedent of a win for the rights of the voters over canvassing technicalities.
Maybe we will find more votes for her.

Congratulations WA

36. They already DID go to court, to make sure that the ballots WEREN'T
recanvassed when the Dems wanted them to be, now they want to spin 180 degrees around and argue that they should be recanvassed. I would love to see the judge's expression when they pull that one, and hopefully a few nights in jail for all of them for contempt.

25. Progressive Majority in WA needs some help getting Rossi toconcede
Everyone at Progressive Majority has gone home for the holidays, and I just couldn't leave without making sure that all of our members learned about what's happening in the Washington State Governor's race because we can make a difference.

For months, the Right has been calling on Chris Gregoire to concede before all the votes are counted. They've gone to court to prevent the counting of more than 700 valid ballots from King County. But just recently we've found out that none of that matters, because even without those votes, Gregoire has won the hand recount.

Now it's time for Dino Rossi to concede. The right wing in Washington up to the same dirty tricks that the right wing in Florida used in 2000 and we must stop them. They have had their moment in the sun, declaring an early victory and crying foul at every turn. But now we know that the true results, even on their terms, will make Chris Gregoire the next governor of Washington. She promised that if she lost the hand recount, she would concede gracefully. Let's send a message to Dino Rossi demanding that he do the same thing:

http://involve.progressivemajority.org/ctt.asp?u=1945891&l=72647

Progressive Majority fought hard to elect progressive champions to the Washington state legislature. Together, we took back the state senate. We cannot -- and will not -- stand by and let those gains be canceled by the right wing's well-oiled machine attempting to steal this election.

Dean M. Nielsen
Washington State Director
Progressive Majority

P.S. - This is going to be decided in hours so I urge you to act quickly... we must increase public pressure so that local officials know that progressives support every vote being counted. Tell a friend to take action too!

Christine Gregoire just held a press conference. Republicans were outside chanting, 'Count all the votes'. Also...a republican is currently on the news, all in a lather, insisting that they are going to go around the state and find new votes.

35. The repukes may sue based upon late military ballots and
Edited on Fri Dec-24-04 01:59 PM by PatsFan2004
repuke ballots rejected for signature problems. Apparently, there are over two hundred rejected repuke ballots. This could put Rossi up. The military ballots could also. The SOS apparently sent the ballots out in the mail late, so they could not be returned in time.

This may end up just like Florida 2000 with equal protection issues because some voters got a chance to get their ballot re-accepted and others did not. During the first count, a judge denied the opportunity to check out signatures in a repuke county but another judge allowed it in a Dem county.

WA state may not see a new governor for a long time if the lawsuit proceeds.

Can we hope that the repukes don't have the guts to fight it out?
