1. Obama has to distinguish
himself in the Senate first........

there is a BIG difference between campaigning and governing and Obama has to prove he can be good at both......

10. He needs to minimize his record
if he has national goals.

If he has to extensive of a voting record, it will be used against him

4. Bayh is not in a position
for national party leadership. Think Daschle. He survives under the radar. That is a cold fact regardless of any attributes or modest electoral appeal.

Obama is not a shoe in messiah. Forget all this looking up and look to your homes and where work needs to be done now. Grow and mature MoveOn and other large grass roots efforts. Find more Obamas. They will knock them down as you set them up. Fine. It is about the people not the representatives.

Get on the BBV issue locally and everywhere. Take the ruined national forums or take them out(not advocating violence!).

The people of Haiti and Venezuela take to the streets knowing they can die. One wins. One loses. One popular leader gone. One survives. We wail for a lot a less.

He seems a little too cozy with the pugs for my taste.

6. I'm here in Indiana...
and the Indiana GOP didn't even try to defeat him. They used one of their sacrificial lambs on the ballot and let him fend for himself. They have accepted him, so we shouldn't

16. I heard from an Indiana friend
That the gop went REAL easy on Bayh and Julia Carson so as not to activate too much Democratic machinary and outrage against THEIR MAN MITCH... It made sense after it was explained by this person to me.

If the GOP mounted a serious challenge to Bayh, it would have 'activated' quite a number of Dems who probably sat out other than going to vote. If the GOP mounted a serious challenge to Julia Carson this time around, it was explained to me there were DROVES of her people who would have come out of the woodwork in that district.

The upshot of both those things happening would have been more people out working against bushies* man mitch, who did win the governor's race in Indiana.

12. true, true, but i think he would swing a bit more to the left...
once out from under the thumb of freeperville, aka indiana. My county, hendricks, was one of the only counties in the state NOT to go to Bayh. So, if he's too liberal for them, he must have some redeeming qualities. He would have a shot at making us go blue, slim i know.

But, i reject the talk about Bayh being just a pretty boy, without convictions, and comparisons to Quayle. He's beloved here by both dem's & many repugs. He is a good man, but you have to realize that in order to survive in this state, he does have to compromise (often). :(

for christ sake, Zell Miller is too liberal for Hendricks. I honestly think that 90% of them just vote straight-ticket GOP

7. Is this the same thread from yesterday ?
I'd swear it is. :wtf:

Why do people think Bayh has anything to offer ?

He is a pretty boy with an empty head and no soul who will do or say whatever he has to so people will like him. He is riding his daddy's coat tails because he is entirely unqualified to hold a real job.

Think of Indiana's other political 'golden boy' - Dan Quayle.
Or, the sitting Rezident, George W.

8. Yellowdog client likes Bayh
I was discussing the election results with one of my clients. His wife spent a month in New Mexico working on the campaign and I just got back from Broward county as part of the legal voting team.

My client really likes Bayh as that he is the type of democrat that can get elected in the general election. The trouble is that he may not be able to get through the primary process.

11. Bayh has a lot to offer
He's not just a pretty boy and he does have an efficient machine at the ready. The GOP ran a shell against him because they have absolutely no one of his stature who could possibly challenge him. On the other hand, were Bayh to be the candidate for president, the Republican party of Indiana would make it their life's work to defeat him... They're in cozy now nationally, now that My Man Mitch is gov and the last thing they want is to have to explain why they don't have an answer for Bayh. Mitch won by making the state government under Bayh look very bad, although he never mentioned Bayh by name, but they constantly brought up the 16 years of "one-party" rule.

Yes, Bayh is pretty conservative on many issues. He's pro-business, too. But he's more like Clinton than any Republican. The trouble is he can be glacially dull at times.

I think the Democrats instead look for candidates for House and Senate to run in 2006 who aren't party hacks. We need people from different walks of life. I'm going to look for someone to run against our dreadful congressman Dan Burton, who might be able to win.

14. Bayh has no charisma
But I do recognize the argument that we might have to make a step to get where we want. Not sure about that, but I do understand it.

15. Give Obama some time
He needs to show folks that he is more then just a great story. Give him 8 years to show America what he can do, then let's think about him running nationally.

17. I would not vote for Bayh for dog catcher and I'm a Democrat
If traitor Bayh got the nomination, I would seek out a third party candidate or independent and work to get my fellow Democrats to vote for an alternative.
