Why can't we re-Exit poll?

Maybe this has been asked and answered, but why can't Zogby et. al. just re-do some exit polling? As in "Did you vote in the 2004 election? If so, for whom?" Do it nationally, as well as state-by-state (OH, FL)

If there is a big enough sample size, wouldn't this help chip away at the 3M+ vote "man-date" myth?

not been polled but if I ever am I intend to do just that, I do not like exit polls. I do not want any media telling me who is ahead until all the legal votes are counted.

but this has been discussed on this forum before. Maybe someone else can recall where it was. Someone proposed doing a sampling of 10,000 Ohio voters and coming up with a new exit poll.

7. There were some additional exit polls conducted

by independent organizations that also deviated from official results. There should be threads in the archives for the days immediately after the election.

8. exit polls have a margin of error of 3% usually more

how is that going to help determine an election with a margin of victory of 2%. polls taken in the press are notoriously unreliable. if I remember my stats correctly, a margin of error greater than 3% is statistically invalid. most TV polls seem to be 3.5% or 4%. also, do you really want a sample of say 1000 people to eliminate the election results where 5 million people voted.
