The best way to ensure the quality of voting machines is...
....to get a Dem or Green to acquire one of the machine makers. Then, immediately the Repukes would demand accountability, and of course what with all the publicity it would get, that would cascade over to Diebold, Triad, ES&S. Am I nuts? Where the hell is Soros?

2. Why the voting machines?
If we eliminated repukes from the voting process, it would again be fair.

paper ballots

for agriculture commissioner because machines failed in one county

we still have three other races still undecided because there is no paper

3. Scrap the voting machines. Hand recount nationwide like Canada.
The fairest way to do it.

5. A ballot that cannot be screwed up, and is standardized
Called a paper ballot, with a big box that you mark an "X" in, or a check mark, or fill it in. You then have representatives from each campaign that is on that ballot to oversee the counting. The counting is done at the precinct level, with results being turned over to auditors of all parties concerned. They are then preserved for posterity, through microfilm, or some other hard media that cannot be changed.

Cumbersome? Yes. Take a long time to count? Yes. However, it would be as close to an accurate count as anything we've had since the days of standing up in a tavern with the guy buying whisky!!

6. Actually plain old paper ballots wouldn't
take any more time than these machines have. Look how long it took for Ohio to certify (of course that was to run out the clock). New Mexico took a long time in fact several states took a long time to finish their counts.
Paper ballots now and forever!!!
