I can't see of anything that would stop Ted from signing on. He hates shrub as much as we do and he is a strong voice that backed Kerry 100%.

Then again we have no idea wtf goes on behind Washington's closed doors anymore.

No need to attack me AmerDem. It's not pure nonsense, it's common sense. Ted Kennedy is one to speak his mind. There must be a good reason why he isn't right now.

15. A phone call or fax is more effective than an email...
...according to an aide I know who works for Boxer. E-mails aren't really counted. Letters are best, but there may not be time on this issue.

Also, please note: many Senators are not in DC right now, so contact both the local and DC offices.

33. Snail mail does take longer...
...due to security procedures. That's why I mentioned the probable lack of time to do snail mail on this issue. But mail is most certainly going through to congressional offices.

Staffers take mail much more seriously because anybody can forward a "Dear Congresscritter" email making the rounds, but sitting down, writing a letter, putting a stamp on it, and putting it in the mail box show some real commitment to the issue. Fax and phone also require a bit more effort.

In fact, based on what I've heard, if you actually need a response from your elected officials, DO NOT use email. There's so many form letters and just plain ol' spam in the inbox nearly everything gets deleted unread. At best, you'll get an auto-reply.

I am sure there are exceptions to this general rule, but, as a former staffer in contact with current staffers, the overall perception is that email is not something you'd dump on the lowliest intern to handle. Too much other stuff to be done.

Edited on Thu Dec-30-04 06:18 PM by Ojai Person
are they dismissive tripe? The NYT has been responding to our pleas for coverage, by writing to us!!! They sent out over 700 emails yesterday.

I wonder if what they sent you was an automatic response?

In any case, it is a good sign that they are not ignoring us.

Do write them back! :hi:

MAKE SURE you reference FL and NM also, and other if you want.

each state that is contested adds 2 hours to the open discussion.

this is important!

23. And no Tom Carper either but I know him --
And I believe he would stand up for this.

Only the fact that he is new to his position and too afraid of backlash politics just yet might hold him back but I'm calling him anyway.

32. "Blasting" is counterproductive
I thought we had established that "blasting " individuals and the media serves only to clog people's systems. A good suggestion was to have one person e-mail. The media will obviously get annoyed and the messages may not be viewed as credible. Not saying there are freepers here, but it is a tactic that has been used by them. Btw cyberpj, do you actually know Tom Carper? If so, why don't you contact him?

37. "Blasting" and Carper -
I agree that "blasting" as defined by email overload is not a good tactic. If that's the generally accepted definition I agree with you that it doesn't work. I thought it meant for all of us to get busy and start writing and phoning and blasting our thoughts into the ether at them.

So how about this word? Innundacation? The art of innundating with communication?
Huh? ... Huh?....... I may have to start a thread on that one ;)

:) PJ

And about Carper, I posted that I'd be calling him --no worries:

34. Summing up an earlier post
"Blasting" will clog the receivers systems. Not saying there's a freeper in this thread, but this is a freeper tactic that has been used before. Writing a letter is a good idea (send it Priority or other fast service mail), but faxing and e-mailing is completely counterproductive.

38. Where's the rest of the Lilly Livered Dems on this list?
Why isn't Senator Hillary Clinton's name on this list? And how about Dianne Feinstein and Jane Harrman, wheres Joe Lieberman's name and what about Levine? What gives people? Why are the conservative war mongering DINO's being left off the hook? And why not demand other House members to join the CBC? It's not just a legal issue, it's a political issue and it's a CIVIL RIGHTS issue.

This regime is a FASCISTS, RACISTS Administration and this is no time to give a free pass to ANY HOUSE MEMBER OR SENATOR whose sole inclination is to run for cover and suck up to the Fascists.

And I really never gave a damn about whether or not Kerry would prefer to "go out with class"... what a crock of shite. As far as I'm concerned, he BETRAYED every single voter and he must not be allowed off the hook. Not Ever.

39. It need NOT be "your" Senator you write to. (Or TALK to - see below)
Failure to do their sworn duty in this matter violates all of our rights.

Tell them that.

We are also RECRUITING citizen-lobbyists to talk to Senators, or more likely staff, personally.

Nothing make a bigger impact. Local or DC staff will do.

If you think you can do this, contact us: thedeanpeople@comcast.net

We can provide talking points, help in getting a meeting, and more.

If you represent a group, and want us to talk to Senators/staff IN YOUR NAME, contact us as well.

40. tips on contacting Senators
from http://www.thedeanpeople.org website
direct link : http://unioncountyfordemocracy.org/My_Homepage_Files/Page1.html

<snip>
-- Snail mail with a personal note would be next best. But DO NOT
snail mail to their DC offices. US mail is delayed and radiated before it reaches Members. Find a local office to mail the Declaration to.

-- Faxing to them would be the next best. Either local or DC office
should do, but the DC staff is usually more important to the boss. You can use our Action Alert page to send a pre-made fax that you can
customize.

-- Hand delivery by a messager is another option. Send a telegram or use the the Extra Impact option at Congress.org. For example, this message was hand-delivered to Capital Hill.

However you convey your message, try to follow up with an office
visit or phone call to ask for a response. See the FAQ section for
talking points.
<snip>

Of course email is way at the bottom of the list.

44. Complicity In a deteriorating democracy if they don't stand up

I'd like to encourage all to add something like

"If no Senator supports the House in contesting the vote and discussing the issues of election fraud and irregularities, you, our Senators in Congress will be complicit in a deteriorating democracy which History will see very clearly"

45. Is it the new Congress or the old one that will be there on January 6th?
If it's the old one, what about Bob Graham, and Tom Dashle. They certainly have nothing to lose.

46. It's the new one, but...
...if you have any special connection to an outgoing Senator or Rep, use it now.

For that matter, make an appeal anyway. It is customary to pass on constituent concerns to the incoming elected official.

An outgoing staff may just love to dump a pile of "stolen election" complaints onto the new guy.

It's not necessarily about "winning" but rather making an impact.

If you have the time and resources, do it anyway.
