The Election Fraud 2004 protest flag...
Edited on Thu Dec-30-04 05:55 PM by KansDem
Due to the endeavors of several DUers, the following flag, a symbol for a protest against election fraud, was created.

THE ELECTION FRAUD 2004 PROTEST FLAG

Three colors:
Black--to represent the death of democracy; “mourning in America...”
Purple--to represent an “all-inclusive nation...”
Orange--to represent fair elections...

arranged as follows:

(This is just a prototype. There should be no white space between the colors)

Notice the arrangement of the colors:
Black on the bottom--the nation in distress, "at its lowest point";
Purple in the middle--recognition that we may "move up" as an all-inclusive nation;
Orange on top--as an "all-inclusive" nation, we will have fair elections; the “zenith of our endeavors.”

Fly it to protest election fraud and the criminals of the Bush Administration and their minions!

Ad astra per aspera!

1. Nice.
Would make a great bumper sticker....no words needed. But it will give you a chance to educate, if asked about it.

8. Purple and Orange...
Edited on Thu Dec-30-04 06:07 PM by KansDem
Purple is a composite of blue and red (dem and repub) and orange was suggested as the color of fair elections...

4. Three comments
The flag looks good! Nice and clean. Black is a good color in print, but doesn't allow much light through in a flag. The light shining through the fabric of a flag is a factor to consider. If the flag were orange and purple with a black ribbon or banner tied to the top of the flag pole, that would indicate mourning, and could be taken off to indicate victory and rebirth. Also, if the orange is coming from the Ukrainian elections, consider that the Ukrainian opposition isn't necessarily all that grass-roots, or all that democratic.

I sort of like just purple :-) A plain purple flag would also be very easy and very cheap to make, and could be echoed through purple ties, scarves, hats, whatever.

Just my $0.02

12. Yep. Plain purple.
That way, anyone who wants a flag can use whatever purple cloth they have got and fashion their flag or banner out of it without having to sew three pieces together. The color itself becomes the symbol, easily repeated using other motifs. Also, a purple streamer could be put on a pole bearing a US flag or state flag without showing any disrespect or causing any harm to the US or state flag.

5. Too much yellow in the orange....
color it more like the prison jumpsuits Bush, Rummy, Cheney, Condi, Blackwell and the gang should be in. Other than that, you are freaking Betsy Ross, can you sew? My wife does "no sew throws" that are held together with knots. Each knot could stand for a Bush lie, you could tie a zillion of those.

6. man, aesthetically it ain't nice BUT
I like what it stands for. How about blue in the middle, for blue states? Or maybe just a more bluey purple. The purple and orange together are pretty bad.

20. Whatever sounds good to me
I wish I knew how to post a picture because I picked up a battle flag from the Revolutionary war and changed it some
It was just red and white stripes with a rattlesnake in the center and the words "DON'T TREAD ON ME. I believe it was flown on ships as a battle flag. I changed the red stripes to blue and it looked quite nice that way

28. Test.
I would suggest a simple exercise where you wave the flag in front of random people, then interview them about what they get of the looks and the symbolism, before and after you explain it to them. Also note their reactions, and if you feel it is easy to explain to them if they are not very into election fraud US or abroad.

I think the irony of the Ukraine orange revolution being a product of Madeleine Albrights and other US efforts, probably will be lost on some people.

Purple is actually a decent idea IMO, it is more than enough of a rhyme with the orange revolution and carry some message of bipartisanship or uniting, as well as a thought about what the election map show and doesn´t. It also is off the usual political color wheel as I know it, and it is sufficiently vague as to allow for flexibility of use. Mixed with US flags, this could work very well IMO. I´d say american flag, purple triangle under it like old sail ship signals would be nice reference, like, "Ahoi, Fraud in the water!". The most significant symbolism I can fetch is the religious use of it in christianity, it could be an interesting button to push.

I would suggest dark purple colour for dignity and being as far away from pink as possible.

Black is the anarchist color, consider the risk of real and fake anarchist to show up at legitimate demonstrations with black flags.

How is spectators supposed to grok this isn´t the flag of a foreign country like ukraine or gigolia? Are you entirely sure it isn´t, I mean not all nations are acknowledged as sovereign states.

32. how about this one
Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 12:21 PM by melissinha
I don't have a site, but consider this.....

the corner of the american flag.... make the field orange instead of blue..... then make the stars purple instead of white. I know its not as easy to create as the ones above... but I think it makes sense...

So basically it means that the 50 stars or states are purple...
and they are surrounded by orange (or common election standards)

33. Star field could be really good--in purple/orange combo
I think KansDem is on the right track with the combination of Purple and Orange. (If want 3 colors then OK black also) All Purple flag alone--too nebulous--the orange adds an urgent dimension.

Melissinha has good suggestion: Use only the star field from the US flag--with 50 stars in purple on a ground of bold orange (should be "orange alert" orange). More difficult to execute maybe. But to simplify--get a piece of orange nylon and print or stamp the purple stars on it. Can use any old acrylic paints.

I like stars idea because it would be unique--nothing else like it--and is instantly recognizable as part of US flag. (Could surround the orange square with a black border but not necessary) Idea of a simple flag which could easily become a sticker is a good idea. Because of the need for simplicity, suggest avoiding further symbols or logos. Keeping it very simple right now is good.
