If You Really Want To Make A Point About Us Being Marginalized...
Here's a suggestion someone e-mailed me. I'm not condoning it myself, but i thought it was important to hear:

THE GREAT SILENT HIGHWAY SIT-IN

Organize as many like-minded people as you can, with
as many automobiles as you can, and locate the largest
interstate highway interchange in your general
vicinity.

Park your cars on the highway so that no traffic can
get passed. Block the on- and off-ramps. Try to block
two highways at once if you can.

Get all dressed up, in black, for a funeral. Find all
the American flags that you can. Hold them up HIGH.
Stand up, say the "Pledge of Allegiance" every 15
minutes, with one person holding the largest flag you
have in the center of the circle. Sit down. Stay
silent. No rioting. No yelling.

People in the traffic jam behind you may try to cause
trouble. Ignore them.

No protest signs. No pro-Kerry or anti-Bush gear. That
debate is over. Silence is deafening.

Wear American flag lapel pins, yellow ribbons,
anything pro-American.

Call the local media. Wait for the cops.

Do not resist arrest, but keep those flags held up
HIGH. Make them PRY that flag out of your hands.

Say the Pledge as they handcuff you. Emphasize the
part about being "indivisible".

Let them tow your cars out of the way, but do not move
them, and do not move until handcuffed.

Keep saying the Pledge on your way to the police station.

It is important to show the other side that it is time
for the President to be the President of the United
States of America, not the President of the Republican
Party.

It is time to stand up as the true American Patriots,
to stand against the faux-Patriotism of the other side.
Their Patriotism is nothing but Hatred and Injustice
wrapped in the American flag.

It is time to show the world that we are the true
American Party: the Party of EQUALITY, of HUMAN RIGHTS,
of SECULARISM, of FREEDOM.

Let us begin.

1. But will anyone know about it? Will the media cover it?
If the media was cowed into submission in Bush's first term when he hadn't won anywhere near a majority of the popular vote, what will they be like now when he has a so-called mandate? Unfortunately, we are now living in the Republican States Of America and Bush IS the President of the Republican States Of America.

But I applaud your effort to offer suggestions on what we could do in protest. Personally, I think actions affecting the Republican pocketbook and taxes are the way to go. Find ways to stop paying for Bush and his illegal wars. Those actions don't require media cooperation to be felt.

3. Unfortunately I don't think we can be so discriminating...
I think we have to bring it all down. I've been trying to get some links to European boards like ours and beginning pushing boycotting of American products (after all, before it was only Bush that told the world Fuck Yourself, now all Americans have said it).

I simply think we have to go simple. Tone down the consumerism in general, spend less, live more simply. Patronize ALL business less. Bush has brought the American economy to its knees, let's finish the job.

It took Hoover to get the New Deal, it may take something like this to stop the Raw Deal.

4. This *WOULD* Hit Them In Their Pocket Book...
...The highway system *IS* the economy. People wouldn't be able to get to work, truck drivers wouldn't be able to make deliveries, etc., etc.

However, it would take a coordinated effort in most major cities on most major highways, taking place on the same day simultaneously across the nation. And, unfortunately, i'm not so sure the DU has the clout to organize such an event.
