Need advice about letters to Senators
I've already e-mailed all the targeted Senators, but I'm going to do so again this week-end. In my previous e-mails, I hit the emotional notes pretty well (if I do say so myself), and was clear about what I was asking them to do and why. But I was light on specifics, mostly urging them to read John Conyer's report carefully and to consider the contents.

In my next letters, I would like to state three or four FACTS very clearly, maybe in bulleted form to catch their attention. What do you think are the most relevant facts, or proof of voter fraud that need to be highlighted? Maybe we could all concentrate on these in our letters. There's strength in numbers, and in repetition! Thanks for your input. I'm lucky to have experts like you at my fingertips.:loveya:

3. I have hand writen a few and faxed them
Hand delivered to the district office is also a good idea. In Oregon a small group of us are going to visit Ron Wydens office with a hand signed petition. We are a friendly group that has no intention of disrupting business and we are hoping that he will stick to the promise that he made on Jan 3 that if fraud was found he would contest.

Use <http://capwiz.com/wa/dbq/officials/> for contact info and fax fax fax...

I have some sample more letters on

4. I took a different tack...
Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 02:03 PM by hootinholler
When I sent the letter below, (Dec 17), the issue I tried to raise is that it matters not who wins, but that:

  1. The American people will no longer tolerate manipulation of elections.

  2. Election fraud must be investigated vigorously

  3. People participating in the fraud must be prosecuted relentlessly

  4. We must halt the electoral process until we have a proper outcome based on fact

-Hoot

Letter:

Senator :

I am a constituant of yours.

I believe that the Moss V. Bush case before the Ohio Supreme Court has merit. I doubt that your staff will have trouble finding it, but I reviewed a scanned PDF file of the case here: http://freepress.org/images/departments/Election_Contest_2.pdf Please inform me if this is not a true copy. I remind you that there is significant evidence yet to be presented in this case, and that discovery has not yet begun. The filing also mentions problems is 5 other States, but that court has no jurisdiction.

My familial history predates the founding of The United States. I likely have ancestors who participated in the Continential Congress (and later, others in the Wiskey Rebellion). The roots of patriotism run deep in me. I take this matter very seriously.

Although it appears to be a long held tradition in American Politics, I believe that the American people have evolved past the toleration of theft via electioneering (which is arguably an act of sedition). Just as they evolved past the holding of slaves, the denial of franchise to blacks and women, and et. cetera, we as a people can not continue tolerate this behavior from our "elected" officials.

I am writing to inform you that I am here watching your continued inaction closely. Your actions are being documented and that documentation will be available when you seek re-election.

Already documented is your inaction in 2000 regarding the Florida Presidential election theft. I feel this is partially excusable because the Supreme court did rule on a case concerning the matter, but, that ruling stopped a recount effort that later showed that Gore actually won Florida.

These are specific public actions by you that I would like to see in the historical record:

Publicly declare that that you will delay the acceptance of Electors from any State until court cases concerning those electors are resolved.

Support the efforts of U.S. Rep. Conyers to open Congressional investigations into the problems in the 2004 election.

Work towards the immediate appointment of a Special Prosecutor to investigate the election irregularities in all States named in Moss V. Bush, and, others as uncovered. Ensure that crimes uncovered in that investigation are persued fully.

I have the utmost confidence in your ability to persuade your colleagues that failure to act on these issues will undermine further the confidence of the American People in thier republic. I fear that the best case result of failure to act on these issues will be the genesis of a grass roots effort to reject all incumbents in future elections. The worst case scenario could include widescale riots or an armed defense of the Constitution.

I will be outside The Capitol on January 6 to demonstrate my support for your anticipated courageous actions in this matter.

Please keep me informed and let me know how I may assist you in upholding your oath of office.

8. Thanks
It looks like it has some good info about voter suppression of minorities and poor people. Personally, I feel that we have enough evidence to prove this happened, and that alone should warrant the Senators standing up!

:P I knew that...just wanted to see if you were paying attention! Tried to edit, but the editing period has expired. I just checked my sent e-mails and none of them use the offending term, so I feel a little bit better! Thanks! Oh, and by the way, Faye, you're very well informed on this issue. What do you think are the two or three main facts that should be emphasised? I'd appreciate any input, and I promise not to call it "voter fraud"!:)

because most of what we have ARE 'facts', it's the physical evidence that so far we do not, to our knowledge, have yet :(

But, you could mention the whole Triad incident, and send them the link to the video of that interview with the one Triad rep....and mention the 'cheat sheet' incident....

also, mention how the recount was infected with numerous violations of Ohio State Law.... - AKA - "WTF ARE THEY HIDING?"

Maybe mention the motion by Kerry to preserve evidence?

then grill them with TruthIsAll's 3-part "To believe Bush won the election, you must also believe..."

hahah

14. First of all, write to YOUR SENATORS, not Senators from other states
What do staffers do with letters, emails, or faxes from other states? They either wind up in the trash or are forwared to the appropriate Senator.

17. Don't waste too much time on the content of your letters...
I interned as an assistant legislative correspondent back in 1987 for Senator Brock Adams of Washington State. These were in the days before faxes and emails. We received roughly 2000 letters per week. We had about 20 people on staff that did nothing but try to answer nearly every single letter. We had hundreds of form letters on file to answer these letters. When a letter came in, it was quickly read and categorized as either "Pro" or "Con" this issue or that issue, and then a form letter was sent out in response.

I don't know if things are done differently today, but my point is that what's important in your letter is your position on the issue itself, and not the content of the actual letter. Senate staff keep a running tally of the letters they receive and this is what they pay the most attention to.

In a Congressional Office it may be different because they receive a much lower volume of letters. (At least I would hope that this is the case.)

If it were my choice however, I'd take three poorly composed/argued letters to a single articulated letter written by a Rhodes Scholar. In politics, its the numbers that count, not the weight of the content.

BTW, here's the letter I sent out to both my Senators and my Congresswoman. You are all welcome to use it if you like:

The Honorable Barbara Boxer
United States Senate
112 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510-0505 December 27, 2004

Dear Senator Boxer,

As you are well aware, the right to vote is the first among all inalienable rights guaranteed to us by our Constitution. Without it, we will cease to function as a democracy and the very fabric of what our great nation has been built upon will come apart at its seams. I am writing to you as my Senator to urge you to stand up with Congressman Conyers in his efforts to investigate allegations of election fraud in the State of Ohio. These allegations include:

1. Concerted efforts to suppress the vote in precincts with high proportions of Democrat and/or African American voters by providing too few voting machines at election polling places.
2. More than half of the votes cast in Ohio (and the nation) were recorded on electronic voting machines owned by Republicans, with no audit trail. One of these companies, Triad Systems, has already been caught tampering with election results. Please get to the bottom of this and, in the future, support the use of only auditable voting machines.
3. For the first time in history, exit polls poorly correlated to the final election results. Although exit polling is not 100% reliable, the odds of President Bush gaining a large advantage over every exit poll in key swing states is an extremely improbable coincidence. This fact deserves investigation.

Thank you for your support in this matter.

Ryder911

19. Thanks for sharing your excellent letter!
I kind of suspected that the letters weren't read very carefully,so I've kept them short and to the point. I wanted to hone them even further, by reducing the text to very simple, factual statements that support our position. Also, I try to summarize everything in the "subject heading" of the message, so that they know where I stand even if they don't read my message. For instance, I wrote "Support John Conyers on Jan 6th !" in the subject line. Thanks for the help, and Boxer is my senator too! Let's keep "hitting" her!!:)

22. It would be great to get some more input in these areas:
Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 07:48 PM by senseandsensibility
1) Voter suppression in poor and minority areas. What do you think is the most convincing evidence that this happened?
2) Blackwell's partisianship. There is a lot of evidence of this! What's the most compelling?
3) Machine tampering. What evidence of this, if any, do we have in Ohio and other places?

I know the answers to some of these questions, but I am hardly an expert. I'd really like YOUR opinions, since most of you are more well informed than I am.:) Oh, and Happy New Year!
