I've spent my entire morning humming this old spiritual...
What a simple yet powerful song!!!

1. We shall overcome
We shall overcome
We shall overcome some day

Chorus:
Oh deep in my heart
I do believe
We shall overcome some day!

2. We'll walk hand in hand
We'll walk hand in hand
We'll walk hand in hand some day
Chorus:

3. We shall all be free
We shall all be free
We shall all be free some day
Chorus:
4. We are not afraid
We are not afraid
We are not afraid today
Chorus:

5. We are not alone
We are not alone
We are not alone today
Chorus:

6. The whole wide world around
The whole wide world around
The whole wide world around some day
Chorus:

7. We shall overcome
We shall overcome
We shall overcome some day!
Chorus:

I felt empowered this morning!! I don't know...my thought is that you could continue this by using things like ...We shall live in peace...or...We will find the truth...

Just a thought...might be good to use on Jan. 6th!!!

PEACE!!! Happy New Year!!!

want to scream. Usually, the tears start and I sing low through the lump in my throat. It helps me to remember those who sang this before me and the victories they gained against oppression.
I like your suggestions for more verses. I will sing it for new years eve. Thanks:hi:

5. Most Excellent!!!
I'm telling you...this is an easy hymn to sing and it can be a powerful reminder of what rising up against oppression can accomplish if done in large numbers and presented with unity and determination!!! It comes straight from the soul...
