but it has flipped by about 10,000 votes in the last hour or so as the absentee ballots are counted.

RESULTS WILL NOT BE OFFICIAL UNTIL NOVEMBER 23, 2004.

Not so fast, indeed.

But seriously, what difference could NM's electoral votes make when Bush already has 274 not counting NM (according to CNN)?

"So, according to ABC-TV’s exit polls, for example, Kerry was slated to carry Florida, Ohio, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada and Iowa, all of which Bush carried. The only swing state the network had going to Bush was West Virginia...."

19. Dunno...
... it could be that CNN has people in the counties, and they're reporting totals before they've been transmitted to the Sec. of State's office.

They may have someone also checking absentee ballots separately in Bernalillo. Early voting in NM is often done on absentee ballots, and the percentage of absentees (because of the high number of retirees in the state) is always fairly high, proportionally, as compared to the popular vote on election day.

Cheers.

28. KRQE (Albuquerque) News 13 "breaking news"
KRQE just said:

Sec of State just posted a lead for John Kerry.

Republicans claiming Sec of State "backed out" the votes from some counties and that's why the vote totals on the Sec of State website disagree with AP totals. No explanation from Sec of State. (Possibly to update all totals for absentee ballots?).

Also, said still about 18,000 provisional ballots yet to be counted.

One of the reporters said it may be another week before we know the final total.

That touchscreen machines were used in early voting (1/3 of voters) and that there was an 11th hour decision, on Nov 1, to switch to the old optical scanners.

Can anyone verify that? I have posted it all over the place.

Gov. Richardson (ex Clinton cabinet) may just have a quiet BBV or fraud card up his sleeve.

JOHN F. KERRY and JOHN EDWARDS
Democratic
353263
49.1%

GEORGE W. BUSH and DICK CHENEY
Republican
357162

46. NM is going through the auditing process. The are much better at getting
accurate results than states like wyoming, FLA and Ohio who certify votes in princincts without verifying accuracy. (i.e. total of votes is 120% of total registered voters, as was the case in WY).

48. The SOS apologized for the confusion....
By law, the final totals have to be entered by precinct. The original numbers were entered by country to get a "quick" result. Now they have to re-enter their results precinct by precinct. This will result in a flunctuating count for a while. But apparently, it will be similar to what was there before save the uncounted ballots. So the AP numbers plus the uncounted ballots should be reasonably "accurate".

On Edit: Answered my own question. My, my, what a shock. Op-scan machines, touchscreens, and Sequoia's AVC Advantage machines.

http://verifiedvoting.org/verifier/map.php?&topic_string=5std&state=New%20Mexico

Does anyone familiar with New Mexico know anything about the demographics in the counties in the above link? I'm kind of curious as to the make-up of the counties with op-scan machines. There are 10 counties and they run along the state borders, both east and west.

58. My activist friend in NM just told me that the NM SoS has been an obstacle
from the first...even though she is "Dem". She's evidently HEAVILY in bed with Sequoia voting systems.

We should have Governor Richardson SERIOUSLY looking over this person's shoulder.

New Mexico's population is 2/3 minorities. The whole state is 1/3 WASP, 1/3 Mexican, and 1/3 Native American. Even though the republican party is VERY active in NM, this election saw a whole slew of new, activist, motivated minorities, and another whole slew of environmentalists. I really cannot believe that bush would carry this state for this election.
