Personal testimonials about Bush voters from 2000 who switched.
Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 04:47 PM by ClintCooper2003
Anyone want to share stories about Bush voters who either switched to Kerry or someone else? Here's my list:

My father switched from the Libertarian candidate in 2000 to Kerry this year.
My mother switched from Bush in 2000 to the Libertarian candidate this year.
My friend Michele switched from Bush in 2000 to a write-in candidate this year.
My brother's girlfriend's parents switched from Bush in 2000 to Kerry this year.
I overheard someone in a bookstore say, "I voted for Bush last time, but not this time - he's wrecked the economy."

And yet, being truly honest, I cannot name one person whom I believe voted for Gore last time and Bush this time.

Anyone care to add their stories to this thread?

8. He is
super christian, for one thing, but was a liberal christian before. Married into a family that is borderline fundie. Said to me, "I really really wanted to vote for Kerry but... I just couldn't pull the trigger." Get used to pulling the trigger, brother. I think you'll be getting some practice.

4. this is an accessible argument -- candidates have fought over
the scarce "undecided" voter and tiny margins of crossover votes since clinton won in 92.

there is no way JR won given all the defections and his administration's mistakes and corruption.

i'm not being clear -- lets try this --

i was watching the DVDs of the third season of 24 and Pres Palmer is fighting for re-election and worried about little scandals and legislation -- and it seemed so UNREAL to me that politics was EVER played like that. are you kidding -- simple maters of policy and scandal? like that's something to worry about? how old school!

6. I personally met at least 3 dozen Bush voters in NC who switched to Kerry.
Almost all of them based their decisions on the deficit. The typical point made was that they never would have believed a Democrat could balance the budget and give us a surplus while a Republican would be so irresponsible in handling the budget and skyrocketing the deficit.

7. I hate to admit it, but I switched
I have always been an independent, and have voted for both parties in the past. In 2000 I made the biggest mistake of my life, and I voted for Bush.

I declared myself a Democrat so I could vote in the primary. (I voted for Kerry in the primary.)

I changed my mined about Bush sometime after reading William Rivers Pitt's book "War On Iraq". the last straw was when Bush declared Iran, Iraq, and North Korea the axis of evil. That's when I was positive Bush was leading us to destruction. (Great Book William!)

I have never ever been involved with a political campaign until this election. I know now that I will always be a Democrat, unless of course they become just as evil as the republicans.

9. I have only one regret in my life
and I've done plenty of things that I probably should regret. I did not pay attention during the 2000 campaign and let my personal feelings about Al Gore get in the way. I voted for Bush and I would do anything to go back in time and change my vote. My husband feels exactly the same way. We became disenchanted with Bush not long after he took office and absolutely irate with him following 9/11.

10. Switched votes
My neighbors switched from Democratic votes to vote for Bush because "of what he did when he came back from Viet Nam." However, a former Repuke poll worker in my district not only switched to Kerry but also joined the Democratic Party.

15. We forgive you. I didn't mind Bush that much in 2000 because at that
point I was totally ignorant. I didn't read much. I think it was really the Iraq war that sealed the deal for me. It was people like David Kay speaking out against Bush that really got my blood to boil.

19. Thanks for the forgiveness...
... but it dosen't make me feel any better. Although I did partialy make up for it.

1) I got my step son to switch to Kerry
2) I got my mother in law to switch to Kerry
3) I registerd two people to vote for Kerry, that had never voted.
4) I turned one very right winged coworker around. I was shocked when he came into work and told me he voted for Kerry. (I guess I changed his thinking about the war in Iraq, and convinced him that Kerry would not take away his guns.) THE NRA LIES AND I PROVED IT TO HIM!

16. My mom switched in Pinellas Park, Fla-la-la (Florida)
after I sent her over 1000 emails and article links about why the shrub was no good. I personally helped her scrape the W sticker off her car. She had to vote absentee though, so I'm afraid her's was one of the ballots they found under someone's desk a week after the election. The county went to Bush by a very small number of votes and the votes they found (about 200) were enough to have flipped it back to Kerry or triggered a recount, but surprise, surprise, surprise, Glenda 'I'm Wearing a ' Hood had already certified the Florida vote just a couple of days before the Pinellas absentee ballots miraculously turned up under the desk, so they couldn't be counted. I asked my Mom to call and see if hers was a vote that counted, but she wouldn't do it.

17. I also got my pet sitter to switch her vote to Kerry and personally lent
her my copy of 'Outfoxed' so that she and her faux-news brainwashed boyfriend ( a lovely person otherwise) could see that they should turn off that channel before it was too late to make an informed decision.
