Help! I need media packets for a rally tomorrow!!!! |
|
I've been asked to fill in as media spokesperson for VOTERR at a protest-the-vote rally tomorrow in San Diego, because the regular media guy has a family emergency.
Does anyone have an up to date media packet on Election 2004 issues (why the election is invalid, latest news links, basic background, etc) that I could copy right away? I have to prepare 20 media packets by tomorrow morning.
I thought I'd find everything I'd need at Demopedia, but just clicked on it and found out it's closed. Is there somewhere else here where I can compile the info quickly, or better yet, does anyone else have a packet that's current that I could use?
Many thanks!

5. Cool! Meet at 1pm at Horton Plaza, 4th & Broadway. |
|
We'll be marching 2 blocks to the Civic Concorse at 202 C.
Wear black or orange (a la the Ukranians), if possible. The rally is called the 5,547 Vote March. We're asking citizens to sign the 5,547 Vote Declaration asking that Donna Frye's disputed ballots be counted. We're also collecting signatures on a petition to Senator Barbara Boxer asking her to contest the presidential election when Congress meets on the 6th.
We're also having some great speakers--and hoping to get lots of media attention. Our last rally did make it onto several local TV stations, thanks to the Frye angle. We're hoping to have several hundred people tomorrow (Sunday). The more, the merrier!
I look forward to seeing you there. Stop by and say hi--I'll be at the media booth.

Start with this one paged bulleted list of facts: http://www.solarbus.org/stealyourelection/articles/voting-facts.pdfI would suggest making a CD that contains important documents, audio, and video clips. I can help you put it together. Send me a PM and we can work on it. Gary

11. That's a great resource. |
|
I'll reference it in my packet. One correction: Congress isn't holding hearings; the Congressional Democrats on the Judiciary Committee are the only ones that have convened hearings, unfortunately.

Personally I think it's fine to say Congress is holding hearings. Just because every member of congress isn't involved doesn't mean we can't call it "congress"

7. Thanks! This looks great. |

Do you know where I can get an update on the legal actions, too? There were developments over the holidays and I want to be sure our packet is current.

10. A little unsolicited advice... |
|
...from someone with a long background in public affairs:
Collect a dozen or so amazing facts about this election in a large font size. Then place a simple, striking visual of the exit poll discrepancies behind it, followed by the most recent articles on election fraud (within the past day or so). Older stories can follow. Highlight key portions of the articles in a bright color.
Make sure *all* your media contacts are ready with quick, concise, attention-grabbing soundbites before you hand out the packets. List their cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses, too. Make sure these contacts understand the importance of answering their phones and e-mail messages quickly; they shouldn't turn their phones off and rely on voice mail. If you have time, prep your media contacts with potential questions, allowing them a chance to rehearse a bit.
Welcome to the world of mainstream!

...pretend you know what you're doing. Don't say to any journalists, "This is my first time..." They don't need to know your background. If they ask, just say you're an American citizen trying to get the truth out; don't apologize or let them think they're getting stuck with "the replacement." Everyone has their own style in public affairs. (Scott McClellan has the top job in the political scene and look how much he stinks.)
If you make a sincere effort to provide facts quickly, they'll respect you.
Oh -- don't make the packets so fat that they're daunting. You can always place additional material on the table. The packets should have the cheat sheet of quick facts, the striking visual, a list of media contacts, your mission and a small handful of recent articles.
