Why a Senator Challenging on Jan 6 is True Democratic Politics
Edited on Sun Jan-02-05 03:59 PM by FreepFryer
Human and political failings aside, the tides of fortune and empire aside, the Democratic Party and the Liberal Democrats hold protecting the civil liberties of all Americans as their pre-eminent goal.

From a defense standpoint, that means protecting human life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That's why Liberals are strong supporters of a well-funded, capable military.

From an election standpoint, that means protecting the core of Democracy by protecting and empowering voters to express their views on Election Day.

When people are killed, Liberals stand up and demand Justice. And see it through. It's what we do.

Millions of votes were killed on Nov. 2 and later during the 'recount' in OH.

We must, and will, stand up. It may be politically difficult, but Liberals don't shy away from embarrassment when lives and liberty are at stake.

Contact your representatives. Politely (in a way that ensures your letter will be read from front-to-back) make your feelings known. Make a difference.

And most of all, take comfort in all the nay-saying and diminishment of the Democrats in Congress by many here - we could ask for no clearer sign that we have found the pressure point.

Advocate Change. Believe. Defend. Embrace.

"Hope is a state of mind, not of the world. Hope, in this deep and powerful sense, is not the same as joy that things are going well, or willingness to invest in enterprises that are obviously heading for success, but rather an ability to work for something because it is good." -- Vaclav Havel

You're right. But it won't happen everyday.

The Montgomery bus boycott of 1955 lasted a year. A year of walking to work every day in the Alabama swelter and swampland in order to make an economic and political statement.

We have it in us to do great things. We mustn't and needn't despair.
