Why can't we all just BYPASS the Media by doing this - - -
Do the same thing MoveOn.org did DURING the election.
They organized people to pay for the making of t.v. commercials.
Why can't we all contribute to a project of producing
commercials that reveal the atrocities committed in Ohio?
We could all contribute to buy airtime. Could the media legally
refuse our commercials? Why can't WE bring it to America's attention?

I doubt people are going to give money for this.

28. Does everybody clear their donations with a jury?
I thought we were talking about TV commercials here, you know, advocacy? Like during the campaign? Did the Swift Boaters have legal proof of their lies before they collected millions of $$ to air their ads?

6. Happy to contribute; and with Congressman Conyers report...
...and all the supporting evidence, I'd suggest not just having folk create infomercials but have competitions, the way MoveOn did.

A tactical suggestion -- see if MoveOn would cooperate before moving past them.

Peace.

7. Even if people donated and the commercials were produced,
Edited on Sun Jan-02-05 05:04 PM by SimpleTrend
what assurance is there that networks wouldn't refuse to sell airtime for that particular commercial?

Here's one recent similar story:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=2881055

A month or two ago, the United Church of Christ tried to buy airtime for a commercial of theirs, and some networks refused to run them at any price.

10. Making the commercials would be easy.
Getting them aired would be a different story.

Can't have any controversial ads on the PUBLIC airwaves.

11. I make a small wage, but I would contribute $200 towards this
My only question is, would the media HAVE to take our ads?
Why wait for the media to publicize our cause? We can do it
ourselves. I can just picture it.

FADE IN:

Long lines of voters, old and young alike, waiting in line
IN A TORRENTIAL DOWN POUR OF RAIN. CUT TO:

REPUBLICAN PRECINCT -- A well-dressed woman parks in front,
leaves the car running, casually walks in, door is opened by poll
worker for her, she casts her vote mmediately, no wait whatsoever.
jumps back in her car. CUT TO:

HUGE WAREHOUSE -- stacks of voting unpacked voting machines.
A voice on the phone says, "Sorry, we don't have any additional
voting machines to send you" CUT TO:

MORE LONG LINES IN POOR PART OF TOWN -- more long lines,

CLOSE UP of old woman wobbling on her case as she painfully waits to cast her vote.

CLOSE-UP on VOTING MACHINE SCREEN:
old lady chooses KERRY, but the screen shows vote registering
for BUSH. She clicks Kerry again. Vote still moves to BUSH.

You write the dialog for the commercial.

You place a strong poignant
ad on the screens of 200,000
million television sets – an ad
that effectively arouses people
to action and you just watch
how fast the Senators rise to
the challenge

19. Agreed- I've been suggesting this for weeks. We need to purchase media.
Moveon.org has a bank of donated funds which they used for those ads, some coming from people like George Soros and possibly, some celebrities. If anyone has connections with Moveon.org (who have, frankly, only been superficially involved in the election fraud issue), and can motivate them to jump on board here-- NOW- that would be terrific, since they have access to funding and can help get these produced. We're talking about needing to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce these and to purchase the amount of air time that we need to be effective. I had suggested a while back, that we find a non-profit, aligned organization to partner who could collect donations and help us get this ball rolling. My worry now is that we are running out of time here- Jan, 6th is just around the corner and is coronation day on the 20th.
Am open however, to doing whatever possible to move this ahead. Not that I have a huge amount of money, but I would be more then happy to help out with this.

I have very few funds now - the campaign totally wiped me out - but I'd give what I can. I think it's worth it... even if the media blacked it out, I'd still feel as though I did SOMETHING.

26. we could try, VIACOM owned outlets (Comedy Central, UPN BET
CBS etc) might be willing to sell us airtime since they have been the target of an FCC-Karl Rove vendetta, seriously doubt that any of the other major news conglomerates will even talk to us, no matter how much cash is waved under their greedy little corporate noses.

29. No problem with protesting CBS, they are the most likely to notice
a protest and give in.

Dont forget it was CBS which broke the Iraq prisoner abuse scandal which turned the war in Iraq from a political advantage for Bush to a political liability, this despite a lot of arm twisting from the White House and the administration. Any of the other networks would have embedded that story where the sun dont shine.

IN retaliation, Rove killed Dan Rather's career.

Comdey Central, through the Daily Show, gives the only objective coverage of the admninstration that can be found on US television.

And you only have to THINK about baring flesh on CBS for the FCC to slap the network with megafines

I dont think it would take much at all for CBS to go for the administration's jugular.

30. I still believe 1 well-designed AD could pack a POWERFUL punch
I've seen people throw together an ad in 1 day.
Put an in front of 200 million t.v. sets and
you watch how patriotic our Senators get.
