It would be political suicide for a Senatlor NOT to contest the election
Anyone who fails to contest has lost my vote in the next election and I'm a loyal Democrat. Imagine how the declines to state who have given up on our party feel. It will prove to them the worthlessness of anyone who fails to contest. The best the party can hope for is that incumbents who vail to stand will get taken out in the primary by someone the voters trust.

1. It will be political suicide for Obama to contest
considering African American US Senators don't seem to last long on the hill.

4. I can think of two....
Brooke (R-MASS) in the 60s and Moseley-Braun (D-ILL).

10. Thanks...you just reminded me of
Reconstuction-era Senator PBS Pinchback from my home state of Louisiana.

22. Pinchback was not allowed to serve as Senator
His opponent claimed election fraud
He served briefly as Governor

23. The poster is correct
It has only been two African American senators in the 20th century. Moseley-Braun served only one term before she was booted out

5. On the other hand, if he believes there was racist suppression
...how can he stay quiet and let it be unchallenged? Either he is truly "a man of the people," caring about them and representing the voters' interests, or he is not. I believe he is honest.

It seems to me, the question will be whether he believes the evidence of voter suppression and fraud are solid enough and widespread enough to challenge the vote.

7. I agree -- That is why that compendium of fraud that Conyers is
to put together and publish is so important. I hope the printing presses are running right now.

9. Don't understand...
This is my first post, I have been a regular lurker for awhile. I am hoping someone will expalin to me why the Democrats are not more involved with the fraud investigation. This is the second stolen election. If the Democrats do not stand up, we will never have another Democrate for a president again. It will become easier and easier for the Repukes to steal the election. They (dems) will continue to wait till "next time" and we won't have much of a country left. It will be the very Rich and very Poor they we will have living here. It just doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone here help explain what the hell is going on???

13. Welcome to the DU board.
Believe me, you are not alone in being horribly frustrated by the tepid response of the nation, let alone the Democrats, in having the SECOND election stolen. Lunacy!

If you go into the Forum entitled "2004 Election Results and Discussion," here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=203
You will find much more. Many of us at DU feel as you describe and we are working to try to get the truth out.

The only MSM (Mainstream Media) reporter to have covered the fraud is Keith Olbermann of MSNBC. His blog is here:
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6210240
Even if you don't have cable (I don't) you can follow his reports here on the board because they are "live-posted" here while they are televised.

Among many other sites, I also recommend Truthout.Org, where Will Pitt posts his investigative reports on various aspects of election fraud. (Will also posts here at DU.)
http://www.truthout.org

Again, welcome. You've come to a good place.
:hi:

12. What does it matter how long they last...
if they're afraid to do what's right. Obama should stand-up against the criminals to show he's not like the person you sound like you want him to be.

14. Fraud is well documented, and suppression of minorities; if don't contest
any Dem Senators base will be very unhappy; the evidence isn't going away. A lot of this will come out.

6. I agree. But from their eyes, we who know about the fraud
are relatively few in number (unfortunately)and they don't want to cause waves. They are playing the odds. Regardless, if they don't they suck. They are selfishly concerned about themselves and not the greater truth and justice.

15. They shouldn't be afraid of losing votes
if they contest it.

They should be afraid of losing votes to Diebold and Triad if they don't contest it.

24. I agree
This is an unprecendented time in US history - a stolen election (probably the second one in a row).

The Senator or Senators who stand up for our voting rights will go down in history as heroes.

This would be a GREAT way for someone like Obama to establish a reputation as a champion of the People.
