Chicago Mayor Daly was hot under the collar about Democrats not
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 10:19 PM by AlinPA
running a good ground game; said the rpigs beat us on the ground. Said the rpigs are organized down at the precinct level and we are Beltway centric and depend on media, and that the rpigs are using our ground game that we were good at doing in the past. Said Dean got us started but we need more of the same. (This was on a story on WGN)

1. I don't know about Illinois but here in WA the Kerry campaign was
very active at the precinct level. My district in Seattle anyway.

2. That's BS - at least here in MN
I was canvassing on election day for a local House race. We constantly ran into K/E canvassers - we were double-covering some areas even.

4. We do depend on the media... to tell the truth,
which hasn't happened in the last four years and probably won't in the next four years either.

Plus the Democratic party should not be cuddling up with our right-wing enemies at The Union Leader in New Hampshire or Fox News to run our Democratic primary debates! On election day the DNC site should not have a link to the Fox News website for election returns like it did on Tuesday.

turnout was good though, interest was in the House races, Melissa Bean especially.

So the mayor's still alive, huh? Who woke him up?

6. He doesn't know what he's talking about
Here in the Michigan 12th District, we worked the base precincts over and over again.

In Ferndale, some precincts were canvassed 5 times in the last week of the campaign.

7. GET A JOB DALY!!!!!!!!
....How ironic that this man from his lofty perch is criticizing Americas political rank and file.....How about ANWAR???....Yup his endorsement of the GOPs vision of ANWAR was very reflective....

8. King Richard is a "Democratic" fascist
I fought his father, and I'd be fighting him if I still lived in Chicago.

He's covering up for what he perfectly well knows is some smelly voting. How does he know? Fixing elections is a Daley family specialty.

15. hmm, repug talking points
interesting. Younger Daly is nothing like his father, he's just not as mean. For that voting reference you're making is 44 years old. Guess some people never get over these things.

The Mayor's not so bad - compared to what you'd expect from a Chicago mayor. He used to dream of a statewide office, but a little too much graft has probably killed that. Now he's mostly lost interest, every once in a while he gets pissed about something the Tribune does, and then goes back to sleep.

11. Daly needs to get on the ground himself. Here in Austin
they ran a helluva ground game. Then again, Bush got 42% of the vote in his former home town, so maybe the rest of the country, including Daly, could learn a thing or two from us.

12. Kerry's Margin of Victory Was 392,000 in Phila.
There was a strong get out the vote effort in Eastern PA, with a high turnout by Democratic minority voters. For example, Kerry's margin of victory was 392,000 in Philadelphia. (Kerry won PA. by 120,000 votes.)

In Cook County Ill. (which includes Chicago), Kerry's margin of victory was 805,000 votes.

13. What I saw in Dayton OH
What struck me when we were canvassing in Dayton is that I never once saw any evidence of GOP GOTV efforts. I didn't see any lit drops on the non-Dem houses we passed, and I certainly didn't see any walkers.

They were not doing precinct walking where I was.

For whatever it's worth.

14. I live in Chicago, I was a poll watcher and Daly didn't do squat to...
.....get out the vote for Kerry that I can see. We the people and we the unions got out the vote.

16. There is nothing wrong with doing this.
There is nothing wrong with doing what he suggested. I don't think that we need to get into a fit of self hatred. I think that a lot of things were done very well in this campaign. It would be healthy to discuss what worked well and what did not.

This would have been a much closer race with Dean running.
