and he sounded very apathetic, doubtful, and uninterested about even talking about it. He even said something like "get over it... we need to work with the Republicans now...."
Unless he's had a major change of heart, I wouldn't count on him.

I heard he has a million or multi million dollar book deal signed. I'm not expecting anything major from Obama other then the same ole lead by what the polls say attitude that has taken over our party.

Don't think it will be Obama - too new, but I'm looking for some long time Senators, lovers of democracy, Constitutional scholars - Byrd comes to mind, Kennedy, too. Maybe all of them, who knows? The only thing that would actually surprise me would be if no one did. Conyers has been too positive about it, I think he probably knows something.

i think they all need to stand up. it sends a strong message to the world, and forces the republicans to ignore the issue of voter suppressio, intimidation and fraud that would be raised on the floor of the congress by Conyers in the short debate.
do i think it will happen. I ain't a bettin' man, but i'm a decent read of human nature. i wouldn't bet it will.

But I wouldn't bet on all of them, either. I'm not sure I'd bet against it, either. I think it depends on exactly what they've got as proof, which I don't think any one of us knows. It's all speculation.
I do think there'll be one or two at least - THAT I'd bet on. I tend to be optimistic, and there's that little tiny thing called the future of the country at stake. Or, the country as we know it, anyway.

13. Interesting question. |
|
A lot depends on what happens on the 6th. If enough steam starts to rise over the Capitol, even if the vote on the 6th ratifies Bush, the congress may have to face the fact that Bush will inevitably be impeached. The Repubs could go to Bush, then, and ask him to step aside and avoid what would be a long and drawn out battle. That's essentially what happened with Nixon.
And, of course, if Bush is inaugurated, he might get into the WH but probably not stay there for long!

I was also surprised that when I went to Conyers web site, he has not updated it since 2003, with many items press releases and news being in 2001 and 2002.

21. Not a single one. They don't represent us. |
|
They represent the corporatocracy, as John Perkins puts it in, "Confessions of an Economic Hitman." The corporatocracy plays for keeps, and any Senator who stands up to it is signing her or his own death warrant.
They'll take your vote, they'll take your money, but they're not interested in representing you. They don't have to and they won't. In fact, most of them never did.
There are trillions of dollars at stake here. Anyone who tries to interfere is likely to have a fatal "accident."
Besides which, the Democrats have to be bi-partisan. Not that any bills they introduce will ever make it out of committee. Not that they have any power. But when you sit in a totalitarian government, you know that you're being watched closely and that the slightest sign of nonsubmission means that you die.
Plata o plomo? Silver or lead? Bribes or bullets? Millions of dollars, or death? Which do you think they'll choose?

And I agree to a certain extent. I'm thinking we may have to dig into the Republican Dirty Trick Bag and somehow get at least one to stand up. He/she may be a guinea pig, but any nail or pothole we can throw in W*s road is a plus in my books. I'm not suggesting bribe, but nearly so.

They'll take Karl Rove completely by surprise and pull the rug right out from under the evil Bush crew cuz they've got the goods the smoking guns, the whistle-blowers and it's game over. Can't wait. What? Did you think they'd do another Al Gore? Fool me once shame on me fool me again shame on--- well -- you get it. It was so obvious they were going to steal the election. Don't you think they had a plan? Man! They are going to stand up, you betcha! Why are Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpten so quiet? "Tar baby he ain't sayin' nuthin ---- And Br'er fox he lay low." Karl Rove should be saying to Bush right around now. "I don't like it. It's too quiet out there." And it is, folks. Verrrry quiet. I lovit!

It is quiet and no way that some of these big mouths could keep quiet unless they have something up their sleeve. Michael Moore finally has stuff on his site about getting a Senator, but no big gotchas yet.

If they DO stand up, they'll never be re-elected. The corporatocracy will target them.
If they don't stand up, they get to keep their lucrative jobs and the corporations will continue to fill their war chests. Ever wonder why it is called a war chest?
The millions of dollars we poor suckers donate are a drop in the bucket compared to what the corporations give.
You don't get to be a Senator or a major party candidate unless you can be controlled. There are a few exceptions that prove the rule.
Gee, I'm listening to Air America Radio and Clinton and Bush* are asking the American public to dig deep and donate to the tsunami relief efforts. But we've already given more than they have, and THEY'RE the fuckin' millionaires. Why the fuck are they asking US for money? Why don't they set an example by announcing how many millions they are giving out of their personal funds? I know they're good at giving away our tax money, particularly for wars we don't want, but sometimes, reluctantly, for worthy efforts.
I have just announced a campaign to ask all the big millionaires in government to donate from their personal funds to the tsunami relief effort. Join me in asking them to set an example before they ask us for money. Every damn one of us has probably already donated a larger percent of their income to tsunami relief than either Clinton or Bush* has. They give away OUR money, then they ask us to give more of OUR money, and they don't give away one damn dime of their own.
Which reminds me. Inauguration day, January 20, 2005, is NOT ONE DAMN DIME day in America. Nobody spends any money that day. Fill your tank, stock your freezer, bring your own coffee and lunch to work. If we shut down the economy for a single day to show what we think of this illigitimate regime and their war crimes, they just might take notice. Mark your calendar and tell your friends and family. Let people know at church. Email your lists and print and post flyers. I've posted a flyer in another forum, or you can google NOT ONE DAMN DIME DAY. Make your donations and pay your bills the day before or the day after. On January 20th, not one damn dime gets spent. This is one poll they'll have to listen to. If you want to see some billionaires and multinational corporations quake in their boots, spead the word. We can do it!

i voted no, but this is NOT like 2000.
we are all aware of what happened in 2000. We are all aware of what should happen in 2005.
We are as a party united here on this site and with the greens and libs and we are demanding something be done.
we are doing something we didn't do in 2000/01. we are petitioning and writing letters. we are serious. we are motivated and we have dedicated leaders and lawyers who are not democrats we have to stand behind them right now. and we are.
who knows they may become our new hero's. perhaps the Dem leaders may fear this and do something.
