Here is what I KNOW...
here is what I know-question is will this be proven right or wrong:
1. Conyers report HAS already been released to all Senators. Been told senators have this information. Id like more confirmation of this.

2.Begining tommorrow, with Jesse Jackson's push in Ohio, a weeklong campaign will (has) commenced. Efforts will greatly intensify.

3. The Black Caucus will meet in its entirety very shortly, perhaps Wed. They will decide what to do the next day to prod senators and the public to the issue of suppression. Now one might entertain what the caucus could decide: will they openly pressure senators. thrash the party over the matter? who knows.

4. On Thurs Jan 6 congress convenes and we literally have NO idea what will occur. None. Maybe something will break in the next day or so.
This is what I know from other sources. Also-it appears Conyers is aiming for more than ONE senator. He wants a near unanimous stand.

7. No offense - but since when?
I find that anyone who doesn't agree 100% with the "party line" gets lambasted. I have been "attacked" for having a different view on everything.

To point out the spell checker button isn't exactly rude. I didn't know it was there immediately either.

3. He will certainly not get a near unanimous stand...
Conyers will be extraordinarily lucky to find one single Senator to contest.

8. It sounds like he has the goods delivered & expects them to stand up
for our Democracy. I am glad that one good man is pushing so hard for justice, who has been joined by so many other good officials. Atleast this time there will be a battle as there should have been in 2000's stolen election. I will be one very pride American the stand with them this week on every opporunity that comes my way.

16. Raise the expectations bar....
I'm glad we are expecting MANY senators to challenge the vote now, rather than scratching our heads wondering which ONE would dare to stand up against the big bad republican machine.

Now we ought to go beyond that and expect a HEATED 2 HOUR DEBATE in which all kinds of election irregularities are discussed and in which it becomes clear that this administration (which most Americans and the vast majority of the world dislikes) is in deep trouble.

Now, just having the challenge is not enough. The ensuing debate should be honest, real, and should have justice as its goal. Then I would be satisfied. A token challenge would be inadequate. A token debate would be insulting.

19. Not sure on ...
yes, the debate. from my understanding, and Im a polisci major, if there is a full challenge, then we are in unchartered waters. things get a bit vague. yes the 1897 law discusses how things should proceed, but the constitution gives more leeway for actions, right? isnt there a post about this here?

24. It all depends on what is in the report
I am not ruling anything out since I don't know what Conyers has found. If he has something really bad, smoking gun type material, then I think there may be some surprises.

A lot of people are comparing this to 2000. I don't see it as being comparable at all, for 2 reasons:

-Al Gore told the Senators not to object. Kerry has not done any such thing. The only things that anyone knew much about in 2000 were the chads. Although it was revealed later on, nobody much was saying anything about outright fraud. Now with 2004, we're not talking about "debatable" votes. We are looking at fraud, perpetrated by several different means. I think the ticking time bomb metaphor is appropriate.

-In 2000 a lot of people were just sick of the whole thing because it had been shoved in their faces for weeks. As frustrating as the media blackout has been, it does have this one benefit that the general public is NOT tired of hearing about it. The general public doesn't know. I can just imagine the REST of our 50 percent -- the part that's disappointed, that probably wondered at first what in the world happened, but that hasn't read enough to suspect any fraud -- I can imagine THEM hearing what Conyers has to say and getting angry again. Having doubts.

Oh, what a wonderful can of worms he will be opening.

I hope Conyers' report hits on ALL of it. Suppression. Registrations destroyed. Provisional ballot problems. The 92,000 uncounted votes. Warren County. Recount violations. Tampering. Bizarre results from south Ohio. Default settings of DREs. The whole kettle of soup.

It's a lot more convincing and impressive that way.

25. Good response, and I agree.
I can't help but feel that Conyers and others have been looking into election fraud for the last 4 years, and probably have access to information that we at DU only dream of.

In fact, I'll get tin-foily enough to say that perhaps they found evidence PRIOR TO the election, and have been waiting to see how it plays out. Sort of an "Election Sting 2004."

Now wouldn't THAT be somethin'??

26. Good point -- there IS evidence prior to the election.
The overt actions.

Blackwell's directive about new registrations being required to be on a particular thickness of paper.

The rule changes about provisional ballots.

"I'm committed to delivering Ohio's electoral votes to Bush."

Oh yes, there are bound to have been people who saw this coming. And Conyers is that type of person.

I doubt we'll ever find out just how long he's been on this, but it's certainly a fun theory to think about.

22. #1 is probably wrong
Although it is quite possible that Conyer's report has been released to all Senators, it is unlikey that they have this information. Congress has not been in session for several weeks, and most Senators are back in their home states (or on vacation, like Kerry). Many congressional staffers will also take vacation time during this period, or will leave DC and work in one of the state offices.

27. art3, Welcome to DU!!!
Excellent post! What troubles me is why our Senators are being so coy about Ohio problems and elsewhere when they have staff that routinely gathers any type of information they might want. You'd think they might want information on this. I suspect that they know quite a bit. I'm also sure that Conyers will give them a detailed report very soon, if it hasn't happened already.
