Hartmann again talking election stuff - on right now....
He just had one of Vermont's electors on who said they too have requested Congres to investigate a possibly fraudulent election. Listen here:

just now that the repig have scheduled the Gonzalez hearing on Thurs (1/6) to distract and thwart any attention the certification- or protest thereof may attract.

3. What time have they scheduled it for?
Won't a confirmation hearing take members away from the electoral vote opening? Doesn't make sense to schedule them for the same time, or does it?

6. not sure about the time of day- but their hope seems the news cycle and
other events such as tsunami coverage, or maybe a Michael Jackson J-walking story, etc. will squeeze it out.

9. This just in...from the future: 1/6/05
Britney Spears and Paris Hilton visit Scott Peterson in prison. They've brought Martha Stewart who's out on a day pass. The meeting will include several cast members of the hit shows "The Apprentice" and "Survivor." Once the meeting ends, they'll head over to see Robert Blake and then a final stop at Phil Spector's house.

Also, on January 6, Julia Roberts's newborn twins will appear in a special episode of "The Bachelor."

This will all be pre-empted by another tape released from video recording artist Osama Bin-Laden and a FLASHING RED ALERT!

:)

So, anyone on the Senate Judiciary Committee, will not be at the opening of the votes?

13. It's not likely to last more than 3 hours
If it is scheduled longer there should be a recess. It is very rare for congressional hearings to keep witnesses longer than 3 hours. If they need longer they are more likely to schedule another hearing at a different time.

8. My question: can't someone in leadership say NOSALE on
attempting to schedule those two huge events at the same time.

Does anyone know how to say NO in Washington?

12. Different Committees
These are two different committies. The only conflict would be for individual members who happen to be on both committees.

Very often during committee meetings, members attend only for the "their" portion of time that they have to ask questions. Sometimes they will be there at the beginning to hear the person's initial introductory remarks, then leave and come back when it's their turn to ask questions. Usually the only ones there for the whole meeting are the chairman and sometimes the minority ranking member. If there are votes called while a committee meeting is in session, they will either take a short recess or individual members will go out to vote and come back, the committee chairman can appoint someone else to temporarily chair the meeting while he/she goes out to vote.
