FALSE RUMOR. Sen. Dayton's office says NO.
I just called Sen. Dayton's office. His statement is that "the voters have spoken." He is not contesting.

1. So you have spoken to Dayton and he says no.
You have spoken to Nelson and he says no (though another DUer can't get through to the staffer handling this matter because she is off today).

Who are you? How are you able to talk to these folks????

What are they hiding?
What are the afraid of? :scared:

If you read the bradblog thread on Nelson, you will see that this poster spoke to Rep Nelson's office and got this reply:
"I just called his FL office ... Nelson WILL reconsider....
I was told that the Senator is still receiving and tallying the public's opinion. I wish my zip code had been his zip code because I think it would have carried more weight. Took a long time for the phone to be answered, couldn't even get an answer in D.C., and while I was on the line the guy had to take another call. I stressed that his stand against certification does not have to be a statement that he thinks there was vote fraud -- only that he allows for the possibility of machine and human error with the current system, and also the possibility of fraud. I stressed that we need the two-hour discussion in order to get this issue in the MSM. We need to let Senator Nelson know that there are ways to present his stand that will be supportive of voters all across American now and in the future, without making him come off as someone set on over-turning what "might" have been a fair election."

64. That was my post & it is the truth....
I began the call by asking if the information was correct that I had gotten on DU that Nelson was not going to stand with Conyers. The guy I talked to said that was the statement they had just put out. I then asked if there was anything that would cause the senator to reconsider. The response was an emphatic "Oh, yes!" He then went on to tell me they were still taking the calls, compiling the opinions, and forwarding them to D.C. That may have been the guy's way of avoiding telling me to go hell, but it didn't seem like he was simply trying to placate me. I could also tell that he was taking notes as we spoke. A couple of times he asked me to repeat something I'd said and it wasn't because he didn't hear me; this I know because he had commented as I spoke.

We have to continue to call and fax and write. We can't listen to those who say that a Senator will do one thing or another because we don't know for sure what they will do. We can't know that for sure until 1 pm on the 6th.

15. question for Minnesotans
I'm originally from Minnesota but have lived elsewhere for nearly 20 years. I've not followed Dayton's career closely, but my impression is the guy is a serious jerk. Not as bad as Coleman certainly, but a real pain. He seemed the most partisan--to the point of undermining credibility--on the Abu Ghraib hearings, and then there was that craziness with his shutting down his DC senate office. What do the Minnesotans think?

Dayton already emailed me and said the election was over and we have moved on.

Dayton has been planning a trip to Iraq this month but I do not believe he is there yet.

He's up for reelection in 06 and I doubt he'd go this far.

my Minnesotan 2 cents.

29. I like him pretty much.
He's no Wellstone, but I think he's been a decent Senator. The Senate offiice closure was made out by Repubs and freepers as goofy, but I disagree. The Senate was in recess and nobody was in the offices but staff. Dayton is on the Intelligence committee and was alarmed by some information he had received. Since nothing was going on in D.C. that week anyhow, he closed his offices and sent his staff home because he was worried that something would happen and he was concerned for their safety. I don't think that was goofy; I think it showed he had the guts to risk ridicule -- which he got plenty of.

78. I like him too.
He has a good heart. And, he has a tough reelection campaign coming up. If even Democrats think of him as a flake for closing his office, how do you think the Repukes are going to paint him in 2006 for doing that? (Personally, I think he was right to do it - and he may have made a point that most people have missed.) I'd like to see Mark support Conyers, but I think he is in too vulnerable a position to do so. The reich wing already has him down as a target.

True, he is no Wellstone (but even Paul didn't stand with the Black Caucus in 2001) - but who is?

18. Gee, you think that's why BushInc padded the vote count in every state
they could?

They rigged it so it would be over 3 million, no matter what.

How do I know this? BBV and the fact that Bush was showing as ahead by 3 million BEFORE the west coast was counted and remained ahead by 3 million even AFTER the west coast count came in. The highly populated west coast ALWAYS tightens up the race for the Dem or puts them up in popular vote, especially after the lesser populated mountain regions report.

Bush's margin remained remarkably unchanged.

Anyhoo...

Seems that Dayton is not issuing ANY statements at all about the election, election fraud or the 6th to the public. How very interesting.

Lovely Delta, who can be reached at the number that nmoliver posted, gave me the fax number there: 202-228-2186 and said that I can fax over information to that number.

How very ODD that the Senator had no comment that was even similar to "the voters have spoken." How very very odd.

We are all working very very hard on this terrible tragedy and we are all going through the same pain and agony. I would appreciate it if people would stop demeaning others, including myself, by implying that we are some kind of underground worm or undercover agent for the forces of fascism. Seriously, how can anyone say for sure what any Senator will do? We do not know and won't know until the 6th. We have to act as though we still have to convince them from scratch. We have to keep clawing our way into their offices via phone, fax and email.

All of this "Senator X is/isn't standing up" crap is pointless. We don't know and we won't know until the 6th.

52. Ed Schultz is a liberal radio talk show guy based in North Dakota
whose show is syndicated all over the place and is carried on AAR (I get it through XM Radio). I tend to have some faith in what he says regarding Dayton because he stays close to news about Minnesota/Dakota/Wisconsin politicians -- even though he's nationally syndicated, he's sort of "local," and he knows people. But if Dayton isn't telling, maybe Ed is just speculating, too.

62. Ed Schultz *IS* good friends with Mark Dayton. This is know.
Ed is building a new house not 4 blocks from me. He was a local talk show host here too... He is friends with Dayton and Dorgan and when he says something, I would err on the side that he knows exactly what he's talking about.

Now if he said "I Think" Dayton will contest, he's meaning to ask him tommorrow on the show.

I personally do not think Dayton will contest, I had a round table meeting with him 3 weeks ago. He plainly said to my face the election is over and we need to move on....

We have spammed him over the past weeks, we meaning his constituancy... so maybe he's changed some sort of tune. I don't think so though.

I do think Ed said he thinks, because he's meaning to corner him tommorrow let's listen and see. Maybe Ed DOES know something.

45. Maybe The Brad Blog Was Confused
The Brad Blog's post asserting that the Senator was going to contest was probably just an honest mistake. Things are getting a bit wild right now and sometimes false rumors just get started. I hope The Brad Blog issues a warning for any Senator planning to contest the election to hide their dog. As The Brad Blog has reported, That Curtis guy found out the hard way that these guys will whack your dog if you cross them.

49. I think that we all continue to fax info to the Senators
and we wait. Sorry but this won't happen quickly.

Senators are easily spooked. They're like wild animals. We've got to approach them quietly and slowly so they won't get scared and run off into the woods.

It's a wait-and-see game.

55. Hand deliver something nice to your Senator's local offices...
Perhaps flowers and a copy of Conyers' letter? A box of candy and a disk with links to relevant sites? I just did something like this, and it felt good to actually hand the package to a human being. Even tho I practically had to strip naked to pass thru the metal detector. <LOL>

NGU.

53. Please relax...
Like I said on another thread, no Senator is going to come out this early in the week and acknowledge that they are going to challenge. Why should they give Rush, O'Reilly, Hannity, et al. three days to howl about it before it happens?

Keep writting the letters and making the calls...

51. Why would ANY senator reveal his cards?
Just like all these candidates say "Oh I wouldn't run for office"
then WHAM! they are running for office. Just makes sense to me
not to show your cards too early. Why give the other side time
to plan and attack?

54. I think you're right: Called both MN & DC offices
Major disappointment here. At least the phones were ringing constantly and got put on hold a couple times each office.

My main point: More evidence has emerged since 11/3 and Conyers needs his support. Why not acknowledge the concerns of people who believe there was fraud and suppression? What is wrong with getting at the truth?

Anyhow, there's going to be a "vigil" at Dayton's office here at noon tomorrow. It was planned a few days ago.

Vigil: :grr:

72. It won't matter shit even if some senators contest,,,,,
The repugs have the partisanship and the majority votes to
overcome any protest by some courageous senators who might
be willing to stick their neck out for the sake of keeping
our democracy honest.

75. Senate a Bunch of Weanies
I think the whole US senate is a bunch of weanies. Republicans and democrats alike. Neither party does much for us. Too worried about getting along to do anything.

Like em or not, at least the house will take a stand sometimes.
