Tennessee DUers: Let's rally at all of our Senators' local offices on 1/5
Edited on Mon Jan-03-05 09:20 PM by Fly by night
One suggestion out of our third Gathering To Save Our Democracy yesterday (Sunday, 1/2/05) in Nashville was to stage simultaneous rallies in front of all local offices of Senators Alexander and Frist across the state on Wednesday, 1/5/05.

We would love to do this in every Tennessee city where these Senators maintain local offices, and to generate local press coverage for those rallies.

We already have the rallies organized for Nashville and Jackson but would like to have them happen in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Memphis, Blountsville and the Tri-Cities area also. So if you're a Tennessean and can take a long lunch break on Wednesday, please PM me with your email address and I'll send you the details and hook you up with others from your city who want to join with you.

Our plan is to show up simultaneously (at 11:00 am CST Wednesday at Alexander's offices and at noon CST at Frist's offices) with pro voting rights and anti-election theft-related posters, orange ribbons and with the local media in tow. We also want to come prepared to hand to the local offices signed petitions asking Alexander and Frist to stand against accepting the Ohio electoral college votes and supporting a full inquiry into the 2004 election theft. (I'll send you a copy of the petition to your private emails with other details when you PM me.) While we know that this is a LONG shot to get our Senators to do the right thing (particularly for Frist), the chance to get local and statewide media coverage for the election theft is well worth it. And I expect it would be a bit unnerving for the Senators' Washington offices to get calls and faxes from ALL of their Tennessee offices on the election theft at the same time on Wednesday.

So please PM me if you're up for a little statewide strategic street theater, and keep kicking this message so our fellow Orange Staters can get in on the action. We will have a big crowd in Nashville and a very savvy group are handling things in Jackson. How about it, eastside and westside -- let's do this thing up right, all across the Orange State!!

4. Please do. Send it to any east TN sites and PM me for more details
Or you can just email me at tracevu@bellsouth.net . It won't take many people showing up in each city but if we could get some signatures on the petition and submit them in every office around the state, that would be meaningful. So email me and I'll send you the petition and the other details.

I just got a note from an Arizona activist that they presented petitions with 700 signatures to McCain et al today. Would love to do something similar here in TN, but also show up at all of the offices at once.

BTW, did you make it over to Nashville for the Gathering on Sunday?

5. Now that we have at least one Senator (Boxer), time to turn up the heat
here in the Orange State. So join your fellow pro-democracy neighbors for a lunchtime rally in front of our Republican Senators' offices on Wednesday across the state.

Now to bed (finally). Thanks, California. Finally a Senator with balls.

6. No, unfortunately
I was sick, my son was sick (he's 5) and we were too broke to pay for gas. I'm a victim of the Bush economy (I'm a single Mom with a college education who isn't getting paid much and I'm not getting child support from my ex - that's a long story).

I did light a candle for you guys and e-mailed out links to the coverage. :)

I'll e-mail you in a momento.

7. Nashville, Jackson, Chattanooga will rally!!!
How about it, Memphis, Knoxville and upper east Tennessee? Let's do this everywhere. (I have heard from folks in Knoxville and Morristown, so hopefully something will happen there also.) Come on Memphis, time to wake up and smell the "un-re-select" coffee. Any Tennesseans who want to rally tomorrow and aren't already connected in your city can email me directly: tracevu@bellsouth.net

8. Knoxville/Blountville on board : how about it, Memphis and Johnson City?
If we can get those last two cities involved, we will have all Tennessee cities with local offices of our Senators involved in this effort. (Not bad for 24 hours notice, 'eh?)

Thanks to all Tennesseans who've stepped forward to lead the effort in their cities. If you're a Tennessee DUer and want to attend a rally tomorrow, PM me and I'll let you know who your nearest coordinator is.

10. We need to be doing this in all states
If folks want to get a copy of the petition we're circulating here in Tennessee, PM me with your personal email address and I'll send you the petition as an attachment. You can then collect signatures in your own communities and fax them to your Senators and Congresspeople. It may be faster just to email me directly: tracevu@bellsouth.net
