I got a response from my libertarian congressman |
|
Dear Keire:
Thank you for taking the time to write my office concerning election laws. While I appreciate your interest in this subject and am cosponsoring HR 4187 that requires voting systems to produce a verifiable paper record of each vote cast, it is the responsibility of the individual states to investigate the alleged problems with the electronic voting machines you cited.
Thank you once again for contacting my office. Please feel free to do so in the future with any other questions, comments, or suggestions.
Sincerely,
Ron Paul

4. You have to admit the guy doesn't dance around the issue |
|
Soem Congressmen would hem and haw and tell you that they would keep you thought in mind when if the bill were to make it the the floor of the House.

3. Libertarians are big on states' rights, opposed to federalism |
|
But you would think that their strong stance on civil rights would trump their opposition to federal involvement???

If the state could be trusted to fairly investigate the alleged problems, there would be no reason to allow for a challenge at the federal level. Once the state is done, that would be it.
But there IS an opportunity for challenge. That means the framers or lawmakers or whoever set it up, knew there would be times when the state would just plain screw up.
So the rest of the country has the opportunity to slap down the jerk who disenfranchised the voters, since they were unable to do it from inside the state.
If a state can't provide electors that truly represent the voters then the rest of the country can do without them until they get their act together and can produce a fair election.

12. Thanks for the welcome Hippie |

Last time I had any interest in politics was when I dropped out of college to campaign for McGovern. This one feels worse.

I've admired Ron Paul's work with privacy issues and on that he's a pit bull.
Too bad he's obviously ill-informed on this.

9. I went to the Libertarian web site last week. |
|
Seems a lot of them are pissed at Badarnik (sp?) for being involved in the recount. Why? To some of them it's a waste of taxpayer dollars.
Fine. Badarnik kicked ass, anyhow.

10. paper trails mean nothing if they dont' cross reference the vote totals |
|
on the printed totals with the voter logs signed as voters check in to vote. Ask me. I know. Those new Sequoia machines with printed records in my county, Elko County, Nevada, had 271 uncounted votes on them that were found by "accident" a month after the election. No one would have said a word if I hadn't requested precinct totals for our county for the Green Party when they were going after the Nevada election fraud issue....

It's perfect in Ron's world. No one is disenfranchised and everyone's votes count. It's just wonderful in Ron's world.
