Reminder: The GAO is still investigating "irregularities" regardless what
happens on January 6th.

The reason being, John Conyers and many citizens (including DU-ers) asked them to.

"The Government Accountability Office said Tuesday it will investigate how the vote was counted in the Nov. 2 election, with an eye toward answering persistent questions about voting irregularities in many states, including Ohio and Florida, which were crucial to President Bush's win.

The irregularities include machines failing to record votes or recording them inaccurately, as well as problems with the way officials counted provisional ballots, which were provided to voters whose names didn't appear on voting lists but who contended they were eligible to participate in the election.

Congress' investigative agency cautioned, however, that it isn't authorized to take action if irregularities are found.

GAO spokeswoman Susan Becker said the investigation isn't a direct response to a recent request by several Democratic members of the House, who asked the GAO to investigate. The GAO was already planning to look at systemic issues related to the elections process after the Nov. 2. election. But given the concern expressed by more than a dozen members of Congress and many voters, the GAO will look at some of the specific problems reported. These include complaints by some voters who said they used touch-screen voting machines that recorded votes for candidates they didn't pick."

Keep a chin up, regardless of where we stand on January 6th. The fight for truth will continue.

2. MzMolly...I think it's because some of us don't believe the GAO will be
able to truly investigate. Remember Chimp through out the good guys early on when they came up with reports he didn't like. For instance the one that said Clinton's people didn't trash the WH and leave it a dirty pigpen like the Chimp said, plus some other stuff.

It's all run by Bush...I'm not holding my breath waiting for the GAO to investigate...but I hope they do and thanks for the reminder...:hi:

4. Good point and thank you. But
Plame investigation is still "active" too

And 9/11 Commission still owes a damning portion of their report

And CIA is witholding a report on WMD

And Edmons gagging is still under consideration

And there's much worse evidence of Abu Ghraib abuse than we've seen

And New Mexico is investigating a judge who threw out only democratic ballots

And somewhere there's an investigation of Chalabi/Iran secrets

And on and on......

7. And didn't the GAO drop the investigation into Haliburton recently...
due to pressure that if they continued, their funding would be cut-off? Thought I read that somewhere.

Please, I heard one of the GAO chairs (the guy with the white streak down the middle of his hair)...who said they would look into FUTURE plans of correcting "irregularities" in future elections.

Can't count on the GAO, sorry. It's Conyers or bust!

Read the last paragraph. It sounds like they have "some" jurisdiction?

But it might be worthless to hold out hope in this regard?
