Is anyone a little concerned...
That yesterdays decision by the Republicans to drop their proposed ethics rule changes may be some sort of compromise with regards to going after Bush? Would our party sell us out to be able to get rid of one EVIL man in the Republican party and avoid a Constitutional crisis?

7. The rule will not apply to Pelosi
It is a party rule, applying only to Democrats. Nancy Pelosi is a Democrat.

3. No, but it is likely a sign
the the legal case against Delay is losing steam and unlikely to end in and indictment.

14. Yeah, right! *sarcasm*

Or perhaps the house republicans just collectively came to the stark realization that their previous position on the ethics rules change was simply untenable. A long holiday break at home talking to constituents can do such a thing.

I respect however, how they managed to keep the fact that they were going to do this last night so quiet.

4. or does Delay know that nothing will come of the charges?
Seems like they went through the potential embarrassment of lifting the rules only to reverse themselves now so something isnt right.

9. Yes, that was my other thought.
They knew Delay wasn't going to be indicted in TX.

6. Anything is possible, but it didn't cross my mind.
I thought of it more as a PR move. They knew the ethics rule change was not sitting well with the general public, even among their own.

8. Those Repukes don't give up something without getting something BIG in
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 11:07 AM by BrklynLiberal
return. KKKarl Rove is still in charge, and you can be sure, he does not make stupid deals!!!!!!! He saw DeLay going down the toilet, and considered him an easy loss, since most of his dirty work was already done(the gerrymandering and dirty elections were already done). The only good thing to come of it, is that the other Repukes might see how easily they will be cut loose after they have served their purpose in the plans of KKKarl Rove.

10. I think the fix is in
....and DeLay knows that he's safe from indictment. That, and the small shitstorm that would result from making the change, made it easier for the GOP to drop the changes. Also, if they make it easier for them, they make it easier for Democrats to get off, too. They want to go after Pelosi, and didn't I hear something recently about going after the rep from Washington state as well...?

13. You know, this seems a lot BIGGER to me
I don't think it is a stretch to think the fix, with regards to Tom delay, was already in a long time ago. The Dems were NEVER planning to adopt the ethics rule change to begin with inside the party, they were going to continue to use the old ethics rule as their guide regardless. Pelosi and Gregoire (sorry I forgot how to spell her name) are such SMALL fish compared to DeLay and *, I can't imagine they had anything to do with this.

16. I was thinking of Jim McDermott, actually
I seem to recall hearing that they were a gonna go after him for something or other. An ethics issue re: a leaked, recorded phone call--found a cite, forgive the source: http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20041228-053546-9767r.htm
Washington, DC, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- The U.S. House ethics panel will investigate Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., for potentially violating the federal and House ethical standards.

This guy is retired Navy, a screaming liberal, they probably want to smack him down but good.

And DeLay and his thugs probably got to a couple of guys on the grand jury. It'll be interesting to see if any of them enjoy any newfound riches once their civic duty is done....

17. The case involved
a leaked recording of a cell phone conversation providentially recorded by a couple fooling around with a police scanner (that's a weird thought) I was curious when I read this in the news the other day--has it only come up because of a recent court ruling?? or is there something else with the episode. Is there a transcript of the tape? Gingrich-ethics violations--might be interesting--cited article above--I believe--has dates wrong--it was 1992.

19. Could it all be linked to the torture concerns coming the Repubs way ??
instead of any one official. The Repub party is about to take a big hit on allowing the torture to continue even after the first reporting of it ??
