Is there any REAL evidence that Bush turned out his base better?
Or are people saying that just by inference from the vote count?

2. Not a single shred of it
The DNC seems very happy about drinking the Kool-aid, anyways.

3. no -- first they said it was fundies, that didn't prove true, then
they said hispanics, then that not true, young - no, first time voters - no, those who decided on Nov 2, no (kerry's)

7. The GOP turnout was immense wherever the Republican GOTV wasn't.

The 3 counties around Philadelphia in PA, the three Democratic "meat-grinder" counties in South Florida and... you know the story in Ohio.

Not that strange, really, when you take into account that the Democrats had a terrific turnout everywhere but where they really tried the hardest (see above).

9. Of course...

That's twice in the last hour that my irony wasn't transparent. I'll trade up to the 12 pound hammer.

11. Yeah, the exit polls filled between the time the polls closed
and Kerry's concession speach. All those evangelicals were standing in line at 9 P.M. Didn't you see the videos of them in Mississippi and Georgia?

13. none that I've seen except for breathless hype
The only accurate breakdowns I've seen show similar proportions to 2000 in all sectors except white women, with a spike in GOP votes, go figure.

14. New voters: Dem 57%, Repug 41%
See the new Freeman study. He also works with the 2000 numbers, and estimates with those (and I think, distributed Nader votes, items like that) Kerry margin should have been about 4.5 million.

(He's working on editing this paper right now--it's a draft--so, if it's not there, just go back later.)

15. A question that may help answer your own
If Bush lost ground(or barely maintained it)amongst hispanics and african americans how could he have gained so much support amongst christians and catholics? Hispanics are often catholic and a large number of african americans are actually conservative christians. Or am I wrong?

16. clear up to election day it was exactly the opposite
that kerry was way out preforming bush in getting not only base but new votes.

bush did not turn out his base better, and all evidence shows he didnt

18. This was my impression too.
How big is Bush's "base" anyway? It can't be 59 million-- no way. And he certainly didn't run to get centrist votes.

19. Umm...guys...even the early exit polls showed it
Even the exit polls WE like, the early ones that showed Kerry clearly winning, also showed VERY high turnout for BOTH parties.
