What type of person would vote for Gore but say they voted for Bush? |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 10:50 PM by JPJones
In the unaltered 12:30 exit poll, 41% said they voted for Bush in 2000, 39% said they voted for Gore. Now, they say that there are some sick fucks who lie about their previous vote because they want to have voted for a winner. Can you imagine voting for Kerry, but being so embarassed about voting for Gore that you say that you voted for Bush? No, those people would be more likely to vote for Bush, right?
Well, in that poll, even though they oversampled Bush voters, Kerry still beat Bush.
You kind of have to not believe in science and logic to believe that the exit polls were so wrong.
Another strange thing is that when they 'corrected' the poll at 1:30 am, instead of multiplying Kerry's votes by 0.94 and Bush's votes by 1.06 across the board, they left the Kerry and Bush voter percentages alone and instead reduced the Gore percent to 37% and raised the Bush 2000 to 43%. Makes no sense, we know that in 2000 there were more Gore voters than Bush voters nationwide.

3. People like Dennis Miller |

I actually know several die-hard Democrats who crossed party lines and started to support Bush after 9-11. In fact, I know a big hippy type that wouldn't have voted for a Republican to save his life prior to 9-11 that is now a Bush supporter. 9-11 altered the brains of some folks.

6. Yes, but why would you tell the pollster |
|
that you voted for Bush in 2000 (lying) and then tell the pollster that you voted for Kerry 2004? Notice if they lie about Bush 2000, but say they voted for Bush 2004, and Kerry still wins in the exit poll - well, Kerry won.

7. The Bush/Gore election was prior to 911. |

So in this case that doesn't hold up, but I agree there are a few altered minds out there over 911. I'm just not sure 911 was the ONLY reason they switched. I think some of them found religion after 911 and their altered minds were easily brainwashed. I know of at least one case of this, personally.
Edit: spelling errors

4. Where did the last sampling (1:30 AM) come from? |
|
Was this data from the West Coast? If so, how could that sample be skewed, since the West Coast went blue?

Precisely this issue came up in another thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=203&topic_id=215658starting with Post #10 There is a lot of confusion (?"deliberate disinformation"?) on this issue.

9. Its a phenomenon you'll find in any election |
|
Doesn't really make sense to me, but I bet if you took a poll today and asked people who they voted for in November, Bush's percentage would be markedly higher.
People always like to be with the winner.
On a much smaller scale, I know for instance my mother, who I am pretty sure voted for Gore in 2000 voted for Bush in 2004, but she honestly doesn't remember.
Its also possible that more new Bush said they voted Bush in 2000 when they didn't.
