BRAD BLOG: Kerry Chooses to Throw Over Base for a 2008 Presidential Run!

Kerry Chooses to Throw Over His Base for a 2008 Presidential Run!

Email to "supporters" announces intention to not challenge electors.

John Kerry has just sent a pathetic email to the supposed 3 million members of his email list.

He has said that he will not be "taking part in a formal protest of the Ohio Electors", and urges his supporters to support Electoral System reform.

We find this response woefully inadequate, and have some suggestions on how to let him hear from *you* about this immediately!

Please see:

...for details.

He never had a popular base of support in the electorate in the same way Clark or Dean or Kucinich did.

9. It sounds to me like he knows the only way to MAKE an investigation happen
that would never happen if Kerry was contesting the outcome. He knows full well that real investigations take the kind of time that he will never get by challenging the outcome openly.

What he's doing is actually more beneficial to democracy in the long run, even though it might not change anything immediately as we would prefer.

investigation in Congress to know how easily they can be politicized and scorned, resulting in failure.

14. Maybe Kerry should kick his legal team out the door!
"Despite widespread reports of irregularities, questionable practices by some election officials and instances of lawful voters being denied the right to vote, our legal teams on the ground have found no evidence that would change the outcome of the election."

Have they done a recount of Ohio? Have they investigated the fraud? Give me a break! Kerry should surround himself with real supporters instead of Republican lawyers.

17. Listen, it is not his job to contest this election -he has done his part.
A person with class, as he has, does not and should not contest his own election. It is up his fellow Senators and Representatives to do *their* job.

Kerry worked his butt of during the election. (I may not agree with certain aspects of his election, but that is another topic). His fellow Democrats and Republicans must stand up.

Besides which, fantasyland people-it would make him look like such a chump. "I was robbed." Well prove it-insert nasty name he will be called here-and "that's all you got."

It took me awhile to get that through my head-even though the fantasy of Kerry standing up is a nice one-the hero, Democracy saved-Bush hauled of in chains!-this isn't a movie!

This is real life with Dick "fuck you" Cheney presiding.

Mockery and derision have been the prime weapons of the Rove cabal. It's so sad when our "own side" continue the trend.

Kerry is a "gentleman" and we'll see how far that gets the nation.

Bush is no gentleman and he rules the roost.

Yushchenko was not gentlemanly defferential, and now he has won in the Ukraine.

rank and file into the fire of no-class American revolutionaries.

We're not in a white gloves American Political War. The Pugs have known that for years and have prevailed because they're willing to do anything to win. It's time Dems get down from their tall white horse and realize the lesson.

30. That is not what the recounts showed....
Recounts showed that Gore won 6 out of 9 possible ways of interpreting the contested ballots etc.

It boiled down to saying that Gore lost because his legal team chose the wrong strategy for recounts.

Had they recounted the entire state, Gore would have won.

The U.S. Supreme W. Court killed U. S. Democracy by refusing to let the votes be counted.

27. As for Kerry...
Kerry either

1) Knows he won and has a plan and is following through.

2) knows he won and is in bed with the Bushes

3) knows he didn't win, knows the fraud is not that bad and wants to run again, therefore staying out of this to save face.

4) knows he didn't win but is using this to help reform the process.

I don't know what to think anymore, if nothing results I will be majorly disappointed in him... But from what he has said previously, about willing to fight, these guys are theives, etc. seems like something is going on.

38. Kerry Must Not like Dogs Very Much
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 05:34 PM by Vinnie From Indy
I was hoping that The Bradblog would have been able to convince Sen. Kerry that he wouldn't just be standing up for Democracy by attending the event tomorrow, but he would also be standing for our furry friends everywhere. Dog Whacking is one of the most insidious tools used by only the most ruthless men in pursuit of power. If it were not for The Bradblog we would all be ignorant of the fact that these dog whackers walk among us in the employ of Karl Rove no doubt. Tomorrow isn't just a day to restore faith in America for humans but for our canine pals as well. Viva La BradBlog!

analyze how Senators, including Kerry, have acted in this crisis.

2008 is a jillion years away!

As far as I'm concerned Kerry has done the right thing by clearing the way for the Dems to fight like hell, since it's clearly not about winning the election (at this moment).

Kerry does not belong in this fight tomorrow. He has plenty of time to prove himself, and it would behoove us to stop it with the character assassinations.

43. I agree...
He should have shut the hell up, instead of sending the signal to 3 million supporters that he wouldn't be there to contest the Electors.

He could easily have sent his note next Monday.

Sending it today sent a clear signal, which is neither to be ignored or tolerated.

And I ain't the character assassinatin' type. I've held my tongue about Kerry for two months now.

Today, he lost that benefit of the doubt. And the base along with it.

46. Don't Forget the TEFLON KERRY spin is running. And running very well...:)
Before you get carried away with entirely dismissing Kerry
based solely on the way he is playing this, consider what
it actually SAYS in the just-issued House Judiciary Report:
(..seems like Kerry and the Cmte. are on similar wavelengths) :)

Read the relevant pages linked at the end of this post.
There was the way to play the electoral college challenge.

HOUSE JUDICIARY OHIO STATUS REPORT ISSUED

Judiciary Cmte Report Clearly
Questions Bush Reelection

BreakForNews.com, 5th Jan, 2005 17:00ET
by Fintan Dunne, Editor EXCLUSIVE
http://www.breakfornews.com/articles/ElectionOutcomeUncertain.htm

A status report of the House Judiciary Committee investigating the
U.S. presidential election, has questioned the certainty of the
reelection of president George Bush, based on irregularities in the
Ohio contest.

Citing recent election controversy in Washington State and in the
"apparent defeat of the opposition leader Victor Yushchenko" in the
Ukraine, the report says these contexts show that elections "...are
subject to manipulation and mistake."

The report goes on: "It is therefore, critical that elections be
investigated and audited to assure the accuracy of the results"

The report then repeats and reinforces comments by Daniel Hoffheimer,
an attorney for the Kerry/Edwards campaign --first reported in writing
by BreakFornews.com on 24th December, 2004. Hoffheimer said that
Kerry/Edwards:

"....want to be sure that all circumstances involved in the Ohio
election, including the recount, should be put before the Court and
disclosed to the American people. Only then, can the integrity of the
entire electoral process and the election of Bush-Cheney warrant the
public trust."

The Judiciary Cmte. report adds to those earlier comments by the
Kerry/Edwards campaign, saying that: "regardless of the outcome of
the election..., that outcome cannot be certain as long as legitimate
questions remain."

NUANCED WORDS

By virtue of this report and other investigations, reasonable proof of
major Ohio irregularities exists. Based on this, the limited public
thrust of the report and comments by the Kerry/Edwards campaign is
that the Ohio electoral process is at question, not the presidential
election outcome.

But on examination, the language used by the House Judiciary Cmte.
Report shows that its authors stand ready to potentially fully
question the reelection of George Bush --against the backdrop recent
fateful events in the Ukraine.

We should note that this is not a final report from the Judiciary
Cmte. It is an interim status report only. The triggers for an
extension of the scope of their position would be the establishing of
further reasonable proofs.

Either by establishing that sufficient votes are in question to
potentially alter the outcome of the Ohio election. Or by establishing
that malicious intent beyond mere incompetence, lay behind the
existing irregularities they have detailed.

That would indicate that further investigation is required to
determine if the malign intent covertly subverted the will of the
voters in Ohio or in the election contests in other states.

Peering through the fog of nuanced wording, neither Kerry/Edwards nor
the latest report are saying that Kerry may have won the presidential
election. But they are saying something else quite interesting.

Right now, they are saying that nobody knows who won.

And nobody campaigns this early for prez. I refuse to see every damn thing he does from now to 08 as campaigning. As I said in another thread, it's a distortion lense.
