My experience calling all 45 senators-what they say
here is what I did today, like you:
all day I called every single democratic senator, plus jeffords, chaffee. Im compeltely exhausted. the senators are inundated, make no doubt guys. one girl I spoke with was at the point of tears, thousands of phone calls. I asked the operator: So a high call volume today? she said tens of thousands are calling, all about ohio. good. phone lines are jammed-literally. could never get to feingold. finally got to boxer's san diego office. the only office of her's that had a open phone line! holey hell.
--my oberservations: either the staffs of these senators have been told to play coy on tommorrow's events,or they are bullshiting on the phone, or they are really pset by conyers' report and are thinking of contesting the vote.
--whose offices were most helpful: byrd, schumer, clinton. hands down.
clinton's staffer told me -hillary has a group of lawyers who are examining the issue and is deciding what action she will or will not take tommorrow on the senate floor. also he said these lawyers have been to ohio verifying information.
*schumer's staffer told me-we are flooded. thousands of calls. a real flood on ohio. said call kerry. I did-kerry's dc office says" mailbox full, sorry." has he already left the nation?
*byrd's office was especially receptive. said all the senators have conyers' report and reguard it with great seriousness.
*sen. landrieau's office: really receptive. I mentioned msnbc reported boxer may challenge. they said that changes everything. whatever that means.
*kennedy's office-snide, but then the staffer said "we are overwhelmed beyond belief. we are physically and meotionally exhausted from the calls. expressed great concern. said kennedy is deciding what action to take.
the others had nothing really distinctive, but almost all would say "let me guess, ohio right?" yes, that is how many calls.
--I just wanted my voice to be added to the tally the staffs keep on issues. clearly today's tally is exclusively in favor of contesting the vote. Im amazed that so many people are calling. the internet movement has moved to the senate and house. to all of us who have fought so hard-called, faxed letters may we find our efforts proven fruitful. if not, I will be devastated. we have done all can today, I think.
--My main worry now-if there really is a challenge, will msm interupt programming and cover the multi-hour event live. nothing like this has happened in over 100 years. oh my sore body prays.
**Also- watched cbs evening news. nothing. ahhhhh. should I e-blast the media again, this time to cover tommorrow? whew and ugh...
thanks

would be my bet to contest the election in Ohio. He's been the voice of conscience, often crying in the wilderness, while Shrub started his Iraq folly.

40. What I said
Here is what I basically said-
"My name is blank. I am calling for not just myself, but all my african-american brothers and sisters here in H*** who cannot call you today because they work 9 to 5. You have recieved a comprehnsive, detailed report from rep conyers. this report is critical. has senator blank read it? (they always say sure). good! Im not calling to take up your time, but and and a great many other americans are enormosly worried about what hapened to our black brothers in ohio. I hope you office is gravely concerned and is prepared to take action tommorrow. Again-here is my name-write it down and say that young democrat with close ties to the black community in houston is/are outraged by what occurred in Ohio. great violations of democracy have happened. African-americans vote 9 in 10 democratic. (here is where I tailored message-to senators in states with large black voting blocks I said "Louisiana has an enormous black population. I should hope, since this group is so loyal to you, that the senator will treat the matter will upmost respect and do what is right for all of those disenfranchised tommorrow"). So-add me to your tally of caller on Ohio. Our party and nation cannot tolerate said acts in Ohio or elsewhere. Thank you for your time."

26. I called 'em all, as well, Art3, and I had similar experiences.....
I also told the staffers that I felt Florida and NM, AT A MINIMUM, should also be contested, and that there was evidence and affidavits, etc., of election fraud all across the country, as well as blatant disenfranchisement.

I also told each of them that WE NEED ALL DEMOCRATIC SENATORS TO STAND TOGETHER, so that no one senator could be singled out. I said that they didn't need to have just ONE senator out there flapping in the wind all by themselves. I told them that KERRY WON THIS ELECTION, and so they can contest the vote knowing that a majority of Americans are behind them.

Yep....I spoke the same message to every single one of 'em! Many of the staffers said they were very aware of how fraudulent this election was, and they appreciated the call. The majority just said 'thank you', and that they'd pass my message on to the senator, and put me on their tally.

Ya know, we need to keep this pressure on, full court press, until the repukes, and EVERY PERSON IN AMERICA, understandS that WE KNOW we won!! Keeping the pressure on THIS way is a lot easier and less bloody than our next alternative. So let's keep gaining steam, and not sit back on our laurels after tomorrow.

I have been met only with busy signals today in my attempts to call Senators. So, I've been sending personalized e-mails with the subject line, "Please stand up for honest elections." My hope is that Senate staffers will at least scan the e-mail subjects and tally it somehow before the meeting tomorrow.

Oddly, Senator Kennedy's came back as undeliverable.

I called ten offices on my way home today. Out of all of them, Feingold's office phone answering guy was the only one who is rude. All of the others were very nice and extremely helpful. Only Kyl's office wasn't coming off of any info on the number of calls.

McCain's office said that they hadn't received many calls although they expected to have a lot of calls coming in today about contesting the election. I found that interesting.

72. McCain Kissing Bush
McCain made me feel sick during the campaign. He seriously hurt Kerry's chances of being president. For that I despise him, but I still respect him and know he is not really one of THEM, a member of that cabal that has hijacked the Republican Party and this country. THEY are the real the threat. I hope McCain spends the capital he earned in those kissy photo ops to excise that cancer from the Republican Party. McCain put himself and his party before country. For that he is guilty.

split up to debate if senator challenges. MSM? Not holding my breath. Probably a brief report...unless something happens to drag out certification beyond tomorrow...then it could ge interesting with MSM.

And thanks for the post! Inspiring. I wasn't calling today because I was with some people meeting with my senator's aide in our district office.

64. Finished faxing/Feinstein and Schumer remained busy signals...
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 11:53 PM by Niche
Have called all my "tired" Dems (friends & family) who are pissed about all of it and dropped out Nov. 3rd... begged and pleaded to just call Boxer and Feinstein - since they rep them... instead of going into it just said "remember the scene in 911? That's happening again tomorrow." They got it and called... ahh Art3 I'm with ya' I'm tired but I'm soooooo hopeful.

67. Good job art3 !!!!
I got calls thru to most of the dems and a several repubs. The only frustrating part in calling was all the busy phone lines. I think we can all go to sleep tonight knowing that we have done our very best - tomorrow our senators must do their best for us!

69. Great work. I also contacted each Dem Senator (and a few GOP'ers)...

...what an incredible day. I encourage us all to become a lot more familiar at it...

GOP'ers see politics as a form of investment. We see it as an obligation.

We need to change the frame a bit, and encourage more ease with ongoing political action in the ranks of the Dems.

Invest in Freedom! Make up your own mind!

70. Actually Fox covered it tonight...not too lightly. We're making progress!
Also, if anyone's having trouble getting through to Boxer, I called her L.A. office: 213-894-5000. Got through right away!

Also, I emailed Boxer because she said she wanted as many responses as possible. And Randi Rhodes suggested today that something in writing would be more impressive for the Senators to take in as proof tomorrow...to hold up to the cameras, as proof of the volume of requests they received. Sounded like a good idea!

76. The natives are restless...
All of a sudden, this issue is being mentioned by Fox, and by Rush Limbaugh... and the New York Times is getting all serious about it...

I have this strange feeling that not all the people who care deeply about this issue are on the internet. I begin to think that really, that whole 56 million (or whatever it was) is waking up.

Someone on here said Limbaugh ranted against Boxer today. Very good sign!

71. Bless you, Art!
Good work! I think a lot of us will be "takin' it to the streets" if Bush still gets to be president.

77. called my Senators in Washington State
couldn't get through and their mailboxes were full. Figure that was actually a good thing. I emailed them instead. Interesting to hear that anchorwoman on Countdown say that 'most voters' think congress has more important issues to worry about...
