It is GOOD that Kerry is not going to be there tomorrow |
|
Kerry has 3 options concering the certification of the electors tomorrow... 1. Be there and not protest. 2. Be there and protest 3. Not be there.
Scenario 1 makes Kerry look weak because he can't even stand up for himself.
Scenario 2 makes him look like a sore loser.
Scenario 3 shows America that this isn't about him, that it is about Democracy and our right to vote.
If Kerry was there and a Senator does stand up, then the media will hound Kerry afterwards and it will be all about him. Now when a Senator stands up and protests, the media attention will be on the protest, not on Kerry. Plus, Kerry is in the middle east to see it first hand. That sure beats Bu$h being in his own fantasy world about Iraq.
I just hope that Kerry doesn't go into seclusion (like some other candidate did) while he is over in the Middle East. Please come John and then be a strong voice for the movement for democracy in America.

Many of us worked our a**es off for the man. Gave up time from finding a job, living our lives, and we could not even go to "the slopes" to recover. He could at least do the same for us. Don't see it. Didn't do it. Waste of our time, really.

20. Poor choice to simply pour anger on hatred |
|
No, it needs to be poured all over those who claimed to be on our side. They need to be held accountable by those who can make a difference: those who actually voted for them. I did not vote for hastert or frist. They do not care what I think because I will not vote for them anyway. Kerry damn well should care about how hard we worked. Some do. Some don't.
So, where do we put our anger? Aim it at the party that is not living up to our liberal roots. The DNC has to be swept clean, and the only way to do that is to sweep the candidates clean.

Petty attacks on John Kerry and the Democratic Party do not impress me. This is a question of our rights, and it was neither JK or the Dem Party who disenfranchised Black Voters in Ohio

What a straw-man! No one would argue that "JK or the Dem Pary who disenfranchised Black Voters in Onio." Other than the interesting use of capitalization, I think it is enough to say that what you just said has NOTHING TO DO WITH MY OBJECTIONS! I said, that JK and the DNC are NOT DOING WHAT WE WANT! NOT DOING WHAT WE WANT! In other words, they did and do not deserve our vote. I am not talking about petty votes on defense spending, I am talkin about OUR RIGHTS, as you referred to.
Democratic candidates need to live up to what they said they believe in and will fight for (yes FIGHT FOR) to get elected. If they don't, then throw the a**holes out!

I just don't happen to agree.
The political climate today is so nasty that if he had stood up, he would have been cut off at the knees and rendered useless. By standing above the fray, he is making is easier for him to walk back into the Congress with visable support from the Dems in Congress AND from his supporters.

You get a nice crunchy Linzer cookie.
Also - the fact that he is in Iraq, visiting the troops (the most presidential thing many Americans can envision a President doing), pressing the flesh, after the Rumsfeld troops debacle, is classic reframing.
John Kerry, reporting for duty - winning the war and not fighting on the enemy's terms.

Thanks for thinking things through, and having an excellent outlook. I commend Kerry for going to Iraq. He's not running for any office right now or waving around a rubber turkey to try to showboat - he's "working hard" - something Shrubbie clearly doesn't know the meaning of. We haven't heard the last of Kerry on the matter, I'm not worried.

....but made the point that Kerry probably already knows which congresspersons will vote which way tomorrow and that - one way or another - he isn't needed to advance the debate.
I have to think that if he thought his presence would change the discussion or outcome, he would be there.
I'm choosing to believe that he isn't there because, having counted votes, he knows there will be a debate and he knows there will be enough protesting congressmen to de-certify at least Ohio.
I can nurture this vision one more day.

But I like you a lot more than some that have been here forever.
And I have come to agree with you, even though many have a fantasy of Kerry standing up and saving Democracy like it's some kind of movie.
I think I reached my penultimate post in the GD forum "I'm glad Kerry lost."
If that doesn't sum up the the selfish and petty anger that many have I don't know what does.
I've had my anger and history will judge Kerry.
But eating your own is not my idea of how to take back a Democracy.
Thanks for your post!

44. "Selfish and Petty Anger"?! |
|
When I worked in the Emergency Room we had many members of the team: We had trauma specialists, anesthesiologists, cardioligists, each person was skilled in a certain area of medical care... each person had a place.
Hospitals cost a LOT of money to run and to staff and they don't hire folks who aren't needed. One person who was on the team did nothing but sit next to the patient being worked on and talk to the person. Get their name, tell them what was happening, get names of family members, reassure the patient, explain when something was going to be painful or frightening.
Now WHY would a hospital hire someone whose job it is primarily to just TALK? The job even has a title: "Patient advocate"
I'll *tell* you why! Because when a person is in crisis they NEED someone who will BE there for them... to let them know they are NOT alone. It's more than just foolish "window dressing" too! Persons who feel they have nobody standing up for them give up sooner, fight less vigourously for life!
What does this have to do with John Kerry? EVERYTHING! Even if he intended to let the election go, he ought NOT to have lead us ON as he did! And in our hours of need WHERE WAS HE?! He is NOT (and has never been) our advocate... but he certainly CLAIMED all the perks and adulation that goes with such a job!
He has not done ONE DAMNED THING to show us he still cares... or ever DID... about what happened to the election! He failed in the VERY thing he needed to succeed in, demonstrating leadership, to retain the public's trust.
He has not made a definite... or even SYMBOLIC... gesture of comfort or support to his followers. He hasn't even IMPLIED support!
He is NO leader, but he sure as Hell expects US to be followers!
No.
Never again.
I have voted Democrat for most of My life. But never again! I was raised to believe that honour was doing what you promised to do. If you cannot fulfil a promise... DON'T MAKE ONE!
So it's not (in the end) about what Kerry did or didn't do... it's about what he SAID he was going to do... and then broke his word!
HE BROKE HIS WORD!
And to Me THAT is the deal breaker, the killer, the "game over" sign. He broke his word. he is NO gentleman and he has NO honour! I am ashamed of him and I am ashamed to have voted for him. And HE should damned well be ashamed of himself!
He broke his word.

47. I don't think you know what he has or hasn't done |
|
I liked his letter. He sent one today to his supporters. It's the second one (not counting one to help the troops.) It comforted me. He's not going to be president. But I blame George W.Bush and his cronies for that. I don't blame Kerry. That's the difference between you and I.
He has lent some support to legal suits being filed in Ohio. He is not going to be President, however, if you can forgive him that. I hope you realize that Republicans are very good at making sure Democratic votes aren't counted. I guess it will be easier for you if you just vote Republican next time. I think you are missing the point.
I was very angry after the concession. I learned a little sophistication about politics since then. I wish it were different. He has nothing to be ashamed of-I'm sure you never liked him to begin with. I did.
Anybody that posts "I'm glad Kerry lost," is to me-the essence of selfish and petty.
I've learned something from Republicans-loyalty is worth something. I do think he fought for us-and I think he will in the future. If I'm wrong-don't worry he'll hear from then too.

What we need is a senator to STAND up. One senator & I don't care who it is.
Judging from the email I got from the Kerry people today, such an outcome looks unlikely.
I'm also sick of Dems not doing something out of fear of getting ridiculed.
and another thing: Defending our right to vote would be a hellova lot easier if Kerry would start defending himself.

I hate reading all the Kerry hate and whining about him not being a big loud "fighter" in all this. We all know what would happen, the 2000 election was only four years ago and I doubt all these people could have collective amnesia? Gore and Lieberman were treated like crap not only from the predictable freepers, but the PRESS. The maistream media is NOT our friend and that election proved it to me.
Kerry is playing this smart, regardless of the outcome.
