It looks like CSPAN-3 is going to show the 2001 Joint Session of the Electoral College Vote Count at 10pm tonight. I've only seen the clip from Fahrenheit 9/11. If this is Gore, turning down the CBC one by one it will be interesting to watch some of that footage again to reinforce how RIGHT it is for our country's government to stand up for itself tomorrow.

9. I remember seeing it at the time

F-911 only shows a few seconds. It felt like forever. One after another after another making a strong, frustrating, heartwrenching statement by the mere repetition of their plea. That was such a terrible time, but despite our worst fears, little did we know how terrible things would become. I knew Chimp would tank the economy and get us into a war in the middle east, but he's exceeded all my expectations for being a royal incompetent fuckup.

At that time, remember the whole message from the media and most Democrats in Congress was, "Let's calm down, let's not have a crisis, it'll be okay, we need to unite..." I think some really feared riots or some sort of "constitutional crisis" and they backed down and bent over.

Remember too that before the election, when elfin Bill Schneider and others kept hyperventilating about what a "national nightmare" it'd be if Chimp won the popular vote but lost the electoral college? A crisis! When it came out the other way, though, it was just "shhhhh.... It's just the way the system works sometimes, that's all."

I don't get C-Span3, but I'm not sure I could watch that again. I was crying when it happened. I wrote to the Congressional Black Caucus later and thanked them for being the ONLY ones left in Congress with a conscience, the only ones left standing for democracy, the only ones speaking for me.

I'm not sure I want to see it again, although I'm glad they're playing it on Air America for many who still don't know what really happened.
I'll *never* forget the horror of that.

on the eve of this time. I thought it gave attention, again, to the problem of rich white men unwilling to stand with the black reps of less rich black citizens.

So - here we go again -- the blacks being the first to stand for their constituents.
